The TM and MTA NYCT does not want to take a chance with running the train, and they are not having the usual annual Holiday Train Show in GCT. Both the TM's main Brooklyn location and GCT Annex Store are operating with limited resources, including staff and operating hours and days.

The financial burden on all of that is too much, and now with the new variant occurring with this pandemic still. Wait for this all again maybe in 2022.

Every day TA posts a "We are running as much service..." message for various lines so I think running a holiday train with a crew on overtime is not a smart idea wouldn't you say?

OFFICIAL - No Holiday Train!!!

Posted by William A. Padron on Thu Dec 2 09:10:50 2021, in response to Re: No Holiday train??, posted by TransitChuckG on Thu Dec 2 08:33:52 2021.

From the TM themselves through social media as just posted (12/2/2021 at 9:00am EST)

Our R1/9 cars will not be in regular service this season, but you can board and explore them at the #NYTransitMuseum in Brooklyn! Cars 100, 484 and 1575 are currently on view on the Museum's platform level.

Inspiring Billy Strayhorn’s “Take the A Train,” over one thousand nearly identical subway cars were delivered between 1930 and 1940 under the designations R1, R4, R6, R7 and R9. These cars were modern for their time, fitting in very well with the IND’s Depression-era Art Deco aesthetic. They feature rattan seats, paddle ceiling fans, incandescent light bulbs, and roll signs for passenger information – all pre-WWII subway staples. R1/9 cars were retired from service in 1977, but they set the standard for more, wider and faster opening doors and a reduction in seating capacity to better accommodate rush hour crowds.

Plan your visit to see these historic cars and more than twenty other vintage cars! Visit nytransitmuseum.org/KnowBeforeYouVisit for tickets.

Especially across the south.

Some upstate NY rural counties, like Tioga, Chenango, Broome, Madison, as well as Erie County are in horrible shape right now. They are also relatively unvax'd compared to the rest of the state.

If it's a cost of labor issue, why couldn't they just substitute the Holiday Trains equipment of R1-9s instead of a route's regular equipment for one or two round trips. This way you'd wouldn't have to call out an extra crew?

And also no single person has that much control, given that most control lies with the states.

Vast majority of crews don't know how to operate prewar cars, also I don't think C/Rs would want to go from their comfy full width cab to standing between the cars to their jobs.

I think the new crews that got recently qualified on those Arnies voluntarily asked to get qualified on them, it's not mandatory like it is on the remaining SMEEs and NTT.

Variants of a world-traveling respiratory virus are 100% expected. The 1917 flu did that, having at least 3 distinct variants that were known at the time by their different effects on populations.

Now that we can isolate virus and (amazingly) figure out the molecular structure and shape of them within days of finding a new one we discover for more variants than were known in previous contagion waves.

Words have meanings, and the meanings don't change because you feel a tantrum coming on.
A bunch of dummies walking around the Capitol taking selfies after Federal agents opened the doors for them does not constitute an insurrection.

The Second Servile War in Sicily was an insurrection; the rebels raised an army with the tanks and guns of the day which were horses and swords. They fought off the might of the Empire for several years, with tens of thousands dead including many Roman soldiers. That's an insurrection. The word is thousands of years old, preserving even its form from its Latin source insurrectionem

Fascist refers to a system of direct and indirect State control of all aspects of society. If there been a Trumpist coup, you would not be free to type that on a public forum, nor to vote in his replacement.

Speaking of off topic, check your mirror.

"Walking around" ?

Trespassing, over-coming security, rioting, scaling walls, smashing windows, defecating, maiming and tear gassing capitol police, some with permanent bodily injuries, hangman's noose for the VP, forcing entire Congress to barricade with seconds to spare, to disrupt a election certification procedure. We all saw the video, except maybe not on right winged media.

The issue with variants is how more apt they are to break-thru already administered vaccines, how contagious they are, and how virulent they are.

Delta was worse then the original in every respect. Then there were 3 or 4 between Delta and Omicron that fizzled out very quickly.

Much too soon to tell about Omicron.

Vaccine can be tweaked to better tackle Omicron, but that will take 3 months. But if the vaccine is too specific for one variant, it may not work so well for subsequent ones. So tweak they must.
