https://www.fox32chicago.com/news/shootings-and-murders-have-increased-in-chicago-in-2021-compared-to-previous-years-cpd-data-shows

NYC is worse than 2020, but now headed in the downward direction since summer.
Chicago's is still getting worse.

NYC: 399 murders thus far this year.
CHI: 678 (with 1/3rd the population).
Chicago has 5-1/4 times the murder rate per capita.

Actually the miscellaneous/work train guys would be the ones getting qualified on the R1/9 and LO-V museum equipment.

In the past, there were 2 t/o's, one of whom who picked to work at 207YD and the other from Concourse Yard who would get changes of assignments (or working an RDO) to work the R1/9 Holiday Train, or the Lo-V's on special occasions.

I do know that TSS Bill Wall has retired and I am hearing that the t/o from 207 YD has also retired. But I'm looking for confirmation on that.

Once Again, the Bill Wall Retirement is a big loss to the Museum. When I inquired about who is his back up (in term of all his work at the Museum coordinating Museum Trains and Museum moves) I was told no one. So we shall see how this plays out. I know the holiday train show in Grand Central was kiboshed due to staffing issues. MTA had even offered to move it to Vanderbilt Hall due to spacing constraints in the store. I believe there have been postings about reatils positions on the MTA website.

They could run a holiday train of R32's. They are 57 years old, out of service, no different than a BMT Standard was around 1975. Would anyone have sneered at riding them at the time ?

But it seems the issue is museum staffing, not ability to drive an AMUE.

man, i'll take any subway anywhere anytime. for what it's worth, in subways i've rode outside of nyc, in baltimore, newark, philadelphia, chicago...i've always been one of the few whites onboard. never gave a shit about it. now, it's true these trios were mainly non-rush hour rides, midday usually. so the demographics probably change during those hours.

like when i was in baltimore i got the chance to say "i took a subway from penn station" and not be in new york city. i rode their one subway to the second to last stop and got out and meandered towards downtown through the neighborhoods for a while and got back on the subway a few stops down.

again, i was one of the rare white folks around those areas. no biggie, right? hey, we're new york train nuts. duh woild is our erster.

geeze, guys.

none of this is worth the worry. think about it: who fucks with dudes messing around trains? nobody. we ain't normal. we purposefully go to areas not only nobody else wants to go to, mostly everybody doesn't even know those places exist.

seriously. when they see us dudes think stuff like "ever see how crazy a retard gets when they fight?" we're not worth the trouble.

and yeah, when we indulge in our proclivities...we are being, sorry, social retards.
