Plan B- Run the SAS up 3rd Ave, cut across E 180 St, instead of Tremont Ave.

Actually what would have to be done is to run the subway across Tremont bring it to a structure, somewhere between Boston Rd and Bronx Pk Ave. The structure would then turn north on Bx Pk Ave to Lebanon St and via an S curve which doesn’t have to be too sharp swing east and connect to the remaining portion of the Dyre ROW just S/O the old NYW&B E 180 St station.

I suggest you go to East 180th Street station and look at the new apartment building that occupies the space where the ROW was and see the MTA bus garage and shop - tricky, you say ?

Check Google Maps set in the satellite mode, and search for "Lebanon Street" in the Bronx. It will save all the trip and hassle to anyone who goes there, and the apartment building there is literally on the former NYW&B row, where the tracks and structure were severed.

I've been up there about 3 years ago. The new apartment building is directly across from the NYWB station. I see no way to build a portal without demolishing a new building, and some other ones as well.

When they demolished the NYWB viaduct in 2003, they quite literally cut off just about any option to use 180th

Without being crude or insulting anyone, if I'm travelling myself for business (especially if the trip is going to be short), I'll take transit to an airport. I've done it in DC, both to/from Reagan national and Union Station (which isn't an airport, but is still a hub). I can pack light an efficiently.

But if I'm travelling with my wife and we've got copious amounts of luggage, it's our own car or Uber. Not that she's not efficient- just that business and vacation travel are different in nature.

Could we get a train across that bridge? Steep grades and all.

I think a better plan for SI would be reactivating the North Shore line, with the exact same equipment as used on the South Shore Line, then commuter service over the AK bridge to an expanded Penn Station. Connections made as necessary to the NEC.

Honestly at some point with all of these leases broken commercial rent prices will go down which will then potentially tip the scales back towards in person offices.

I'd prefer it to be two circular routes , M and MM

And as for that currently in service freight line, let it be, and use a TBM to complete the remaining portion.

They could run the SAS up 3rd Ave and across 180th St to the IRT station there. have an escalator run between the new subway stop and the elevated station. From there, have it curve NE to connect with the Dyre Ave Line, unless you wish another route to be built, east of
the station.

exactly - and unless eminent domain is declared, no subway line will ever be built on that site.

Thanks for the description. I've been following it on Google Satellite View. When you state "The MTA NYCT bus garage's parking lot takes over, situated between East Tremont Avenue and East 177th Street", I think you mean between Wyatt St and East 177th Street.

According the the Google satellite view, there is still a good bit of structure between the north side of Lebanon St and the actual south end of the former NYW&B E180 station. There appears to be no building directly across from the station.

According to the Google satellite view, there is a building on the south side of Lebanon St but there is a good portion of structure between the north side of Lebanon St and the S/E of the NYW&B E180 station where a connection could be built.

Using the measure distancing rule from the Google Maps site in the satellite mode, it is approximately 148 feet from the north side of Lebanon Street to the south edge of the NYWB station's platform. I do not believe that would be possible, and that new building on the south side of Lebanon Street still sticks out.

Yes, thanks for pointing it out, and also I now double checked my old Hagstrom atlas for verification. While traveling along Bronx Park Avenue, the bus garage's parking lot is indeed between Wyatt Street and East 177th Street. So, I stand corrected though.

That would work, and in that case, connecting it to Dyre makes the most sense. But this would sure be a lot more complex than running up the NYWB viaduct would have been.

When the proposed Concourse extension along Burke Ave was drawn, the NYW&B was still running. Plus, the Dyre shuttle did not begin service until a year after Unification. The "what ifs" are numerous, like a lot of other subway/elevated train projects discussed here.

Using the measuring distance between the edge of the north side of Lebanon Street and the south edge of the former NYWB station, it is approximately 150 feet on that structure. Not that possible for any such leeway space, and that new apartment building sticks out on the opposite side of the block.
