They were probably the cheapest places in the system to add or refurbish extra tracks. Dyre Ave was historically a 4-track line, and I assume that the City probably owned most if not all of the ROW needed to add the Broad Channel track. They both also have an advantage of being almost completely tangent, and being fairly easily accessible from the ground. Sea Beach, on the other hand, has always been somewhat on the edge of being kept in service as revenue tracks.

It's going to fail regardless.
Two trains, instead of the original every other train being an Express, will only compound the problem.
This plan is Failure in the making.

Every Fashion Week event I attended these past few days has included one or more plus-size models in the show.

Body positivity is better described as "real people". Just to stay on-topic, one such fashion show was at Hudson Yards, overlooking the tracks, and it was all plus-size. Those "fatties" spend money on clothes, too, y'know...

It used to be a rule of thumb for schedule makers that 30 seconds per station were saved when running express. Given that the F exp will probably save about 3 min considering that 6 local stations will be skipped.

The city did own the ROW near Broad Channel, since the entire ROW across Jamaica Bay was built on landfill that the city built to replace the original LIRR wooden trestle that had previously burned.

Not to mention that if there is a delay in regular F service the expresses will be instructed to operate as locals.

Hi Guys,

Sorry, I have not been posting for a while, I've been busy.

Just a few thoughts:

a) I agree with most of the thoughts about the F-express service consisting of two morning express runs, and two evening express runs. These express trains allow for either an increased number of G-trains or non-interference with the local trains.

When there were problems on the line, I'm sure that train dispatchers did indeed send some F-trains express - simply making plain a typical practice.

b) I doubt that these two F-express trains will become a "tradition" like the rush hours only E express trains out of 179th Street, but it would be nice.

c) I agree with Joe V - "The IND Culver line has had trains at 4 - 5 minute rush hour intervals for 2 generations. I doubt people are going to let a local F go by to wait for the express F that runs twice a day. They'll get to the station and take a train that gets them to work when they are due for work. "

d) In the past we have argued, debated, and argued some more about the M-trains, the V-trains, the trains using the 53rd Street tunnel, and the trains using the 63rd Street tunnel.

Not to beat a "Dead Wallyhorse" about it (ha, ha) - please let's not start that argument again. I know it is one of the "greatest hit's debates" that we have here.

e) I would suggest another reason for the N-train's Sea Beach express track was the recent renovation work done on the stations - track made it simpler to provide service.

On the other hand, the MTA has often sent both D and N trains over each other's tracks in many service re-routes or G.O.'s over the decades that a consistent case for the express track may not have been the easiest to make.

f) Both the Dyre Avenue line and the Sea Beach line are "kind of out of the way" making an easier case for a test track that also happens to be useful for occasional service re-routes.

Plus in the case of the Dyre Avenue line, the passengers may simply remain on the same train to get to the by-passed stops.

g) Glad to be bad, even if I can be wordy.

Mike

Actually many Coney Island F’s already go express when they are behind. I feel people should know of this practice Already. Just today my F train went to Xpress at around 7:30 PM. We passed a G train at Smith and caught up with another F train at Church Avenue. It happens all the time. It’s like the Brooklyn bridge bound 6 trains. So many of them do skip stops to Bleecker and the Brooklyn bridge.

So when the shit hits the fan, the locals go express, and when the expresses start formally, the expresses will go local on an ad hoc basis. This whole scheme will then fall apart.

There was an experimental run on 9/9 listed as a service chance announcement.
