That brings up and interesting aspect of NYCT’s OPTO. When NYCTA first instituted OPTO, it offered a premium pay supplement for T/Os making OPTO trips.The TWU objected claiming that the premium was not enough and wanted more money. The NYCT management investigated other systems which were doing OPTO and discovered that those systems were paying eve less that what the MTA was offering so the MTA withdrew their original offer and made a counteroffer in line with what was at the time industry standard. I believe some sort of arbitrator was involved and because of that the TWU lost their fight and had to accept even less than the MTA’s original offer. |
