It seems that NYCT car equipment personnel couldn’t satisfactorily maintain the more complex electronic P wire braking system so those systems on both the R-44s and 46s were replaced. The Westcode system of the R-46s was a bit more reliable so the 44s were done first with the 46s waiting until GOH. When the LIRR M-1s were new, there were reports of numerous failures on them as well but eventually those problems were corrected. |
