Last time the Q was shut down, and they ran buses instead south of Prospect Park, the "express" bus made a stop at the (2) station at Flatbush and Nostrand Aves. This time, they are not bothering with doing that. I guess few people got on or off there, and they figured it wasn't worth it to detour the buses there, which had to make them take longer? |

This is why I would seriously look at re-building the Botanic Garden Station into a 600' station (or at least the side where you transfer to/from the 2/3/4/5 anyway). Doing such would allow the (Q) run to Botanic Garden when points north of there are closed and split the shuttle when needed.Of course, if it were up to me, I'd be taking the Franklin shuttle back to two tracks and all stations to 600' as part of a long-term plan to connect such to the existing portion of the Myrtle Avenue El for a new Myrtle-Brighton line that would eliminate the need for the shuttle since it would be absorbed by this line. |

How does traveling all-around Brooklyn to Coney Island and back really help the riders get both to and from their destinations in a timely manner? Such a journey might help the trains, but not the passengers.Imagine your home station is the N-train station at Bay Parkway and there's no Manhattan bound service - meaning another trip around Brooklyn. Or a rider of the D-train at 25th Avenue, where there's no Manhattan-bound D-trains, but N-trains have replaced the service, because the D-trains have been re-routed up the F-train line. Another convoluted journey just to get to or from Manhattan. Considering the MTA's often terse statements about how "something is not running", it is not a wonder why plenty of riders wonder what the frack the MTA is doing now! Most riders just want to get to their destinations as quickly and effortlessly as possible, and requiring lengthy trips around Coney Island because it "would be nice" do not really help the riders. Uptown N passengers at Bay Pkwy need to go to Coney Island anyway, so they can transfer to the F at Coney Island for Manhattan service to avoid huge delays from 36th St to DeKalb. Uptown D passengers at 25th Ave can use the already rerouted N train which is on the D line, and transfer at 4th Ave-9th St (if the D were to go up the F line). Waiting 10 minutes for an additional train is far quicker than sitting through 20-30 minutes of delays. The D/N are duplicate service southbound along Sea Beach and duplicate service northbound along West End. No need to duplicate service northbound along West End when there are severe delays. At least this weekend there's an escape for N/R/D passengers at 4th Ave-9th St for F service to Manhattan (last weekend uptown F trains were skipping that stop.) |

I'm not sure if there would be a sufficient market to warrant the expense of a direct Myrtle - Brighton, but the rest of the Fkln Shtle should definitely have been rebuilt as a constituent part of the Brighton Line complete with 600 ft platforms and a 2 track island platform station at Fkln/Fltn. |

It's south of Prospect Park that the Q is not running (this weekend). It's running normal from Prospect Park north. You will seize any opportunity to push your plan for Franklin-Myrtle line, won't you? |

My mistake, yes, you are right that this weekend, D and N trains travel south-bound on the Sea Beach line, and again uptown toward Manhattan both D & N trains travel on the West-End line. Basically cutting one direction of service on either the Sea Beach branch or the West End branch, while increasing the frequency of service on the direction that is in operation. You're talking about "extra service clogging DeKalb Avenue" - while I'm talking about making travel about Brooklyn more difficult and not direct. For me, it is not about the trains but the folks on weekends - doubling-back and forth just to get to their destinations - making travel on the weekends something only to be done if there are no alternatives, because it is a hassle. Yes, in southern Brooklyn, it appears that only the F-train is running un-affected until it reaches Jay Street, where the F-train shares its Manhattan-bound Rutger's Tunnel with A and C trains traveling to Manhattan. A routing of A & C trains that I know well, since it was often a hassle for me leaving Brooklyn to get to my destinations. The doubling-back and forth just makes travel on the weekends a hassle. You're trying to say, "take the F-train" less hassle, without acknowledging that "getting to the F-train" can also be a hassle. Yes, the trains end up someplace helpful for the trains, however plenty of riders may not find the service as helpful. Mike |

It was just a reminder, and I misread the G/O issue. But yes, building Botanic Garden to 600' would allow the (Q) to go there and if the full Franklin shuttle were built to two tracks and 600' platforms would allow for the (Q) to go there when needed. |

I don't believe that's a good idea, even if it did speed up the trains. Rather than being able to double-back at 36 St or 62 St-New Utrecht Av for D and N service, those locations would be at Broadway-Lafayette St or Atlantic-Pacific respectively. As Mike stated in another post, that N via Brighton, D via Culver idea would require riders to spend more time either backtracking or transferring to other lines to get to their destinations. |
