Court Sq. transfer-- when?

It looks like the new interior transfer staircase has been finished for a while, but it is not open yet, probably because the escalators and elevators aren't ready yet.

Can't that staircase be opened to the public in the meantime, so we don't have to exit and walk two blocks (in the terrible snow etc.) to transfer? I can't count the number of trains missed because of this. Why wait for everything to be finished? The new signs have already been installed; let's go with what's ready already!

A construction zone is a construction zone. PERIOD.

The contractor's insurance will not cover you, who are to them a trespasser. The zone has not been turned over to the MTA. They cannot cover you either.

It may look to you to be finished, but it is not.

Once again you are demeaning someone with no proof of your own to back up your ridicule. Please show us your engineering and/or construction background which qualifies you to make such a sweeping statement about a project you are not involved with.

How can you possibly know what is "safe to open up in stages" or not? You are stating as fact something you cannot actually have knowledge of, unless you are a structural engineer, contractor, or NYCT employee.

That Depends. [BTW: Have you checked yours lately.]

A project *could* be designed that way, but it would likely not be.
This one, it seems, has not been opened yet, and so likely was not so designed.

Maybe the contractor is staging material in there. Maybe he is using it as a work space. It does not matter. It is closed. End of Story.

Now do us all a favor, and get a life.

To be fair South Ferry opened well before it was really finished and that lead to a confusing series of pedestrian detours as entrances were opened and closed seemingly at random by the contractor in an effort to finally finish that boondoggle.

I figured this out on my own using the power of observation and common sense. Anyone could know what I know about this, for example, if they've ever been through a subway station undergoing renovation (such as 59 St-Columbus Circle), or even one undergoing new construction (such as the new headhouse at 96 St IRT [1 2 3]). In both of those cases, parts of the new or renovated sections were open before the projects were totally complete. New staircases were open before everything was totally complete. So like I said, if NYCT wanted to have the staircases open ASAP, then there's no reason they could have at least tried to do a phased construction approach so that the stairs could open earlier than other parts of the project. Broadway Lion stated that there is no way that this could be done. That is what I said FALSE about. There IS a way it could be done. But maybe NYCT didn't choose to take that route. But they have a choice. They could have done it that way if they wanted to, contrary to what Broadway Lion thinks, because he is almost always wrong.

To be fair South Ferry opened well before it was really finished and that lead to a confusing series of pedestrian detours as entrances were opened and closed

Exactly, WillD. Anyone who uses the subway system with any regularity should know this. It happens at probably almost every station that undergoes renovation. But since Broadway Lion doesn't use the subway system regularly, he commented on something he knows NOTHING about and as a result, as usual, was completely wrong. And then JayZeeBMT, in his infinite journalistic wisdom, decides to side with Broadway Lion, the non-NY'er who is wrong practically daily about the subway system, instead of me, the NY'er who is practically never wrong about the subway system (because I don't comment definitively on topics that I know nothing about!!! Imagine that...). Go figure.

While JayZeeBMT might have reading comprehension problems (or might not, but it seems like he does), in this case I believe it comes down to him simply still having a stick up his butt over the fact that I called him out for being factually wrong about several NYC subway topics recently and also because Easy and I have successfully showed time and time again that the sources he gives to support his assertions do not in fact actually support his assertions at all.

Unless you work directly for a CPM design manager's group or at a construction manager's (Field) office you will most likely not know the scheduled date of (Expected) completion date, or beneficial use, with guesstimates as is typically the case from outside observers. This does not take into account punch list items that may need to be resolved by the contractor before transit accepts the job.

You have done exactly that, several times, right here in this thread. You are neither a contractor, NYCT employee, or structural engineer. Each station in the NYCT system is different, and has its own set of issues whenever work is done on them. The Court Street project may simply not be safe to "open in stages", for reasons that are beyond your limited level of knowledge, but you stated that Broadway Lion was wrong, when, in fact, you cannot possibly know that.

Each station in the NYCT system is different, and has its own set of issues whenever work is done on them.

Obviously, which is why definitive statements made by clueless people like the ones Broadway Lion made are asinine.

The Court Street project may simply not be safe to "open in stages", for reasons that are beyond your limited level of knowledge, but you stated that Broadway Lion was wrong, when, in fact, you cannot possibly know that.

Here's that reading comprehension problem again. I was saying that Broadway Lion's REASON was NOT NECESSARILY the reason and that if NYCT really wanted to, they could have planned it so that the stairs could be opened earlier than other parts of the project. Remember, with certain amounts of time and money, anything is possible. Broadway Lion made a definitive statement about a subject he knows nothing about. I made clear that his definitely statement is FALSE. There could be tons of different explanations, and on top of that, like I've said, if NYCT really wanted it open early, they could have made it happen via established methods.

Earlier in this very thread, you said you worked in the "mailroom", and it is clear from other postings made by you that you are not employed by the MTA, any of its operating subsidiaries, or as a structural engineer, contractor, or other person who is qualified to determine when a station work project is safe for use by the general public.

Here's that reading comprehension problem again

Perhaps you should examine your own ability to read, comprehend, and write the English language. Your grammar and sentence structure (see the first quoted passage above) do not suggest the quality I would expect, from someone who claims a degree from Cornell University.

Are you lying about your professional and academic credentials on this board?

Again, YOU made the claim that I CLAIMED to have a degree from Cornell. Again, please post proff of WHAT YOU YOURSELF STATED. I already asked you to do this but so far you have failed.

Also, again, you stated that I identified myself as having a certain position at a certain company. Please provide proff of my identifying myself like this, as I have already asked you to do but thus far you have failed to do.

At this point, it seems pretty clear that you have outright lied two times (at least) in this thread. And you claim to be a journalist! LOL!!!

You stated, in this thread, that you "only worked in the mailroom".

You stated in this thread, that you "didn't really recall" what you had posted. I'm guessing you are confident your posts about Cornell have been long since reefed--it IS strange how you can get certain posts reefed if you feel they cast you in a bad light--but IIRC, you did post quite some time ago that you were educated at Cornell University. If not, where did the other posters develop this information?

I've seen posts by you in which you acknowledge having a "slow day" in the mailroom.

If yoiu haven't identified your work and/or education on this forum (or others), or acknowledged the above references by others, where did this information come from?

Your photos of your unibrow'd self and your idiot deadhead friends clearly show that you had your fair share of time at Cornell.

I'd be willing to bet that your presence at a Cornell Alumni Barbecue means that are indeed an alumni.

Or are you going to take down the photo?

All one would have to do is email you at brian.weinberg@stantec.com to see if one gets a bounce back!

You stated, in this thread, that you "only worked in the mailroom".

I also clearly stated That post was obviously facetious. You didn't catch that? LOL. Sad that you STILL haven't caught on.

If not, where did the other posters develop this information?

Um, maybe from communication OFF of this site? Ever think of that? I do know many people here off of this site.

I've seen posts by you in which you acknowledge having a "slow day" in the mailroom.

See above about you being clueless about facetious posts...and also note that those mailroom posts said nothing about where I worked, which you claim to know...so how do you know where I work? And again, besides my facetious posts, how do you know I work in a mailroom?

If yoiu haven't identified your work and/or education on this forum (or others), or acknowledged the above references by others, where did this information come from?

I already talked about how I know SubChatters in the real world. But can you guess about where else such "information" may have come from? Please try and guess.
