Until the 2003 Redbird Ramble, I hadn't ridden that el since 1987...on an R17. The lines that truly scared me were the ones where white people were rare. The 2, 4, 5 in the Bronx, the 2 & 3 in Brooklyn, and the CC were at the top. Most of the other lines, including the J & M at least had significant caucasian ridership. It wasn't racism. It was simply a fear of standing out in the crowd. Then I transferred to FK Lane and I got used to being the only white guy around. |
