1962 – from The Book of First Runs

Operation of ten car trains on the No.7 Flushing during the rush hours begins today.
This was made possible by the transfer of fifty R-17’s (6500-6549) from the mainline.
Usually the R-17’s run in solid trains but occasionally they are mixed with the R-14’s and R-15’s.
This is the first time that the IRT has run ten car trains with only one conductor.
