One of the old time Motormen I knew mentioned to me that since he started as a MOTORMAN and not a train operator, he was expected to be able to do his own trouble shooting instead of sitting on his duff and waiting for a TSS. Of course even a knowledgeable motorman would probably not be able to do much these days since all the trains are unitized. All the T/O would basically be able to do is sectionalize the train into a “good” section and a “bad” section and then wait for further assistance. The days of isolating a single car are pretty much over. |
