The Triplxes were about as fine a piece of equipment ever designed. They were pulled much too soon, IMHO - only because the R-32s were being delivered so rapidly they had to make room. That and the fact that the TA was hellbent on getting rid of anything "nonstandard" such as articulating units. Unlike the R-16s, which were mercifully put out of their misery, the Triplexes were still running like tops when they went to premature slaughter despite receiving very little maintenance. They could easily have lasted another ten years, if not longer.
