Only 20 R-38s were on TA property when the Jamaica Yard Crisis hit. They were pressed into service with one trainset on the Ethel and the other on the Fred. Then 32 R-16s were borrowed from ENY and assigned to the GG with new signs spliced in. And a group of condemned BMT standards were given a last-minute stay of execution, pulled off the scrapline and sent back to revenue service on the Broadway-Brooklyn local with the S for Scrap painted over. |
