The problem with the junction at Mineola is that it is an at-grade junction. The Main Line is very busy and an at grade junction would only add to delays. You could put a switch on the eastbound track but the train would still have to cross over the Mainline Tracks which could potentially hold up traffic on the Main Line plus it is possible that not all cars using the OB Line can platform at the station. A flying junction would be a solution but the overpass east of Mineola station would be a challenge. Building a tunnel would also be another solution but it would be expensive.While this would be a problem, it may not be as big as we think it is. I don't think the OB Line makes up much of the ridership at Mineola. We'll have to see what happens. |
