It will have to cutover either at Queens or just west of Mineola station. Putting the switch west of the platform rather than east doesn't change the fact that it will still happen.If the service were made a shuttle to the middle track at Mineola, configured like Hicksville or Babylon, 2 train sets would mean hourly service. Lack of frequency negatively impacts ridership more than a transfer moved from Jamaica to Mineola. It is too expensive to run all hourly service now, but very inefficient the way they run. Two train sets now provide bi-hourly service on weekends. With the long lay over in Jamaica, it could run every 90 minutes at no increase in cost. |
