Let's say that you were a passenger on a D train from Brooklyn headed to 23rd Street-Eighth Avenue. You were sleeping on the train and missed the chance to change trains at West 4th Street. In addition you did not want to walk the two blocks from 6th Avenue to Eighth Avenue with a transfer to the Sixth Avenue local train. You could of course change to the E train at 53rd Street-Seventh Avenue for a downtown E train direct to that stop. Now expecting the Planners and builders of the First IND System to have provided a set of cross-over switches to allow D trains from Brooklyn to travel uptown on the Sixth Line, and then at 53rd Street-Seventh Avenue to travel downtown on the Eighth Avenue line is a tall order, bordering upon "not happening." Just an idea. Mike |
