Hey this civil service employee was in a profitable small business long before you had yours. I made a choice to move to the private sector and take a cut in salary because I wanted the security that it provided. Don't blame me if you were too fucking stupid to do likewise. Of course, I'm assuming that what you say about me holds true for every other civil service employee on this board and elsewhere. Do you honestly believe that we were all sucking on the public teat? Does that include your moron bunk mate who was run out of two civil service jobs? Was he sucking on the public teat then too?

No - Bain Capital was about Capitalism. It was about streamlining and bringing companies back to profitability. You know yourself that if your company were not profitable, you'd do what it took to return it to profitability and that might just include laying off a person or two. (I have no idea how many people work for you) As I said Capitalism isn't always pretty but it beats all other economic models for viability and longevity.

Hey, the jobs are there for the taking. We sold our family business in 1981. I have never regretted my choices in life - especially being able to work in an industry that was also a hobby. And when and if I return to the industry, you can be sure it will not be about the money.

Yes and I guess that Bain also went into Bethlehem and colosed that venerable institution as well. You, once again are portraying the extremist liberal version of Georgetown Steel to further your own political ends perhaps this might shed another light on the subject.

"Let's start with Georgetown Steel, Bain's South Carolina foray into the steel industry. The story of steel starts over a century ago. Steel production had been one of the great engines of American industrial growth in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. U.S. Steel, founded in 1901 as a consolidation of several mid-sized manufacturers, quickly became the largest producer of steel in the world, and was the first corporation in history with a market capitalization of more than $1 billion. In the aftermath of the New Deal, however, labor unions began to flex their muscles. In 1959, the United Steelworkers of America launched a devastating nationwide strike that shut down 85 percent of all U.S. steel production for four months. As a result of the effects that the strike was having on the national economy, and even on the nation's military capabilities, President Eisenhower invoked the Taft-Hartley Act, and forced the union to end the strike. While Eisenhower's move appeared to be a setback for union power, unions were able to extract significant concessions from the steel industry, such as automatic annual wage increases and new pension and health benefits. This outcome was to have long-term consequences for steel manufacturing in the United States. Beginning in 1959, American consumers of steel, such as the automakers, resolved to become less vulnerable to future disruptions in their supply of raw materials. For the first time, they began importing steel from abroad in significant quantities. They found that steel from emerging economies like Japan and South Korea was just as good as American steel, but much cheaper. "

You are mixing apples and oranges and not even getting a decent fruit salad. Bain did not streamline Solyndra so 1700 jobs were lost along with 593 million taxpayer dollars. Trimming fat and streamlining a company is better than losing all the jobs when the company would otherwise go belly up.

That though is a whole other subject from creating an environment where companies can prosper and create jobs. Our current president has not done that, Instead of picking winners and losers he should be giving tax credits to companies that develop new technologies and products and allow them to flourish instead of singling out companies for government welfare - success or failure. The one universal thought is that this president has not created a business friendly economy and they are like turtles tucked safely in their shells waiting for the danger to pass.

The "Bim" is also making some very great assumptions. Except that she's parroting the clown that she's married to, the assumption that civil servants don't keep up with the current technology has no basis in fact. When a new technology comes on board, everyone is trained. Some of us actually go to school so we can do the training. But what can you expect from a schlep who never learned how to stop a train.
