They allow employees on the east coast to take the Acela. I think that we have some sort of corporate discount for it, but I'm not sure what the cost ends up being compared to rail. |

But would your company reimburse you for the extra cost and time of rail?Your plane will be landing while high cost rail train is leaving Fresno. What additional cost? The HSR line will more than likely be *cheaper* than any airline, especially for last minute travel. And you couldn't be more wrong about the travel time. The airlines state a 1 hr 30 minute flight from LAX to Sacramento while the CHSRA will deliver a 2 hour 17 minute travel time after the Phase II system buildout. Even allowing just a half hour at the departure and arrival legs of the airline trip the high speed train will be at least 15 minutes faster. |

I once drove to and from Sacramento (the same place where I'm headed tomorrow actually) on the same day and also worked there for a few hours. It was a nightmare. Closed freeways, forgot something and had to go back home, and then snow in the Grapevine. I did get to listen to Coast to Coast for the first and last time in a long while. Because I flew to Montreal on Air Canada in 2006?It's actually a reference to the fact that flying to Montreal or any Canadian city in general is rather expensive when compared to the equivalent distance in the United States. A quick search leads to roughly $300 to $400 fares from New York to Montréal, while a similar flight to say Pittsburgh is in the $150 to $200 range. Yes, they're super quick flights, but I'm not earning enough to justify paying average costs for a flight up there, so I'll deal with the Thruway and the Northway and admire the view on the way up. |
