The Christian right doesn't burn crosses. The Liberal left doesn't burn the 'stars and stripes.' Only 'fringe groups' destroy symbols of our nations creation. Our nation was created as a place of refuge for all and established in 'The Crucible of Freedom.' We have the responsibility to see that those before us who established Constitutional Law and Civil Rights for all are not forgotten, even if we don't agree with their politics.RAISE your M1 rifle high over your head, reaching the FLAG and sing: 'This is my country, land of the FREE.' Service can be as easy as attendance in the House of Worship that you choose. 'Home of the Brave.' Remember the lives lost on September 11th, 2001, along with those affected by that 'Day of Infamy.' FREEDOM is a commodity that can be lost but never sold. |

How about the black suspect grabbing the cop's groin and when the camera was shown the cop threw the prep on the car = one part of the story.I am glad the cop was declaired innocent - don't know of the suspect though. Also how about this for reverse racism: I read somewhere a black police cheif fired a few highly decorated veterans not for doing something wrong, but cuz they were white! Not adding fuel to the fire, but where was the media there? *If it was the reverse, the media would show the white police chief as the white satan for canning the black veterans. As I said ppl are too quick to point out the blacks as victims and the whites as nothing. If the white ppl are convicted or fired it's not worth covering. These are just facts. |

The Police Cheif would have his ASS SUED for doing something along those lines. The Mayor (of whatever city this is) would have some say in this too. I suspect there is more to this story than the whiteness of the cops. Perhaps they were involved in profiling cases or receiving kick-backs or other corruption. Until you show proof, this remains suspected BS. SHOW US THE PROOF! |

Only if he has parents who care. They *may* (rightly or wrongly) presume that in the suburbs. They may (rightly or wrongly) presume otherwise in the inner city. But the police are employees of the local jursdiction (NYC, Nassau County, Stark County etc.) and they will have been given different instructions by those who elected the ones who hired them. People living in NYC have demanded a better quality of life and want the petty hoodlums collected and processed. People living in Nassau County may have asked for a different way of treating kids on the corner. But I'll betcha that has changed since I lived there. Out here, yes the sheriff deputy will bring you back to mama the first time or two, why would he want to make a 40 mile round trip, taking 2 hours out of his patrol to write up some dumb kid. No matter what he does he still has to write up a contact report, and you can bet that social services will look into the matter before too long. In NYC social services is so swamped with cases that they cannot be counted on to handle the little stuff. |

The variance of the mean of N samples is 1/N the variance of each individual sample. The standard deviation, which is the "plus or minus" business, goes as the square root of the variance. So it depends what the variance (that is the uncertainty between one trial and the next) of an individual score is, which I imagine is pretty small. |

Or at least a motivated guardian. If you can't get that, how about a really motivated teacher (Jaime Escalante, for example). And make sure there are enough textbooks to go around. In some impoverished areas, like Compton CA, school districts are notorious for spending money on administrator salaries, consultants etc and not on the kids. In Kansas City, MO, we have a Head Start program that made sure its administrator, Duane Crompton, made over $300,000 a year in salary, had a nice luxury automobile to drive and a beautiful furnished residence, but didn't accomplish much for the kids. Head Start is a nice program, if criminals like that don't screw it up. |

Way to necropost...Yes, BTW, the answer is that it is in large part genetic, magnified by environmental factors. That environmental factors play a role in say crime rates and illegitimacy among Blacks becomes obvious when you think of life during Segregation. At the moment I live in what can be described as a high-trust society. Part of the reason far Northerners are friendly is because they trust one another. It is great, and it is indeed a far cry from being in say New York City, where people don't trust strangers much at all. I want to visit Quebec City and observe life in a large North American city (pop. ~500,000) that consists of almost 100% French Canadians. |

I've actually visited, and IIRC, there are some small numbers of white immigrants, you'll definitely stand out, with a few presuming that you're a visitor from Montreal, but you're unlikely to get the "what are you doing here stare". My aunt's friend lives up there and tolerates being isolated from the rest of the Haitian community in Canada and likes living up there, and in theory, I wouldn't mind living up there, but I could think of other places that I would choose first before moving there.
