Only if he has parents who care. They *may* (rightly or wrongly) presume that in the suburbs. They may (rightly or wrongly) presume otherwise in the inner city. But the police are employees of the local jursdiction (NYC, Nassau County, Stark County etc.) and they will have been given different instructions by those who elected the ones who hired them. People living in NYC have demanded a better quality of life and want the petty hoodlums collected and processed. People living in Nassau County may have asked for a different way of treating kids on the corner. But I'll betcha that has changed since I lived there. Out here, yes the sheriff deputy will bring you back to mama the first time or two, why would he want to make a 40 mile round trip, taking 2 hours out of his patrol to write up some dumb kid. No matter what he does he still has to write up a contact report, and you can bet that social services will look into the matter before too long. In NYC social services is so swamped with cases that they cannot be counted on to handle the little stuff. |
