Posted by JayZeeBMT on Wed Apr 27 09:26:28 2011 Here is President Obama's 'long-form' birth certificate, released today by the White House because Donald Trump's allegations against Obama were "rising to the level of distraction".Of course, as Jesse Jackson notes, stirring up doubts about Obama's birthplace is code for racial fears. The old tried-and-true strategy of saying something eenough times that people will eventually believe it, was working, hence Obama's release of his "long-form" which is, in fact, not "his" at all, but the property of the Hawaii Health Department. Luch's inevitable "why did it take Obama thois long to release it?" in 5, 4, 3, 2... |

A few questions and observations here:1.) This was a HORRIBLE move by Obama. I am not sure what his handlers were thinking. Caving into Trump is going to make Obama look weak and Trump look strong. Trump can now clearly say that he was the man that made Obama release his birth certificate (and there is no doubt in my mind that he will play this up as much as he can). 2.) Recent reports from Hawaii have come out stating that they could not legally release this document. Now that someone has released thsi document, I would hate to have the GOP come out with some side scandal that Obama illegally obtained this document. |

The Hawaii DOH made the image available to the White House. Obama just said in his press conference, why he released the long form. There were serious national issues going on, but all anyone wanted to cover was his birth certificate. In fact, Trump was ranting away when Obama broke in to do his presser, and he opened with the observation that he couldn't get the networks to break away for national security issues, but they gave him airtime for his birth certificate. The "birther issue" was becoming a distraction, and Obama needed to give Trump a STFU moment.That said, even Obama acknowledged that no matter how much material the White House puts out, there will be people who refuse to believe Obama. Obama even used a line that makes me wonder if he is on SubChat: "we cannot get things done if we make stuff up, and pretend facts aren't facts"... |

None in "my crowd" were birthers. Legit birthers are a rare breed and are not in line with mainstream conservatism. If you read conservative blogs over the last 3 years, you'd understand this. Most in "my crowd" always asserted that Obama used this issue for political gain, not that he was actually born outside the United States. Demands that he release this birth certificate from "my crowd" were made to demonstrate how cynical Obama was behaving. Today made our case. Obama had the power to do this in 2008. His minions lied to America when they claimed there were laws in place preventing it. |

But you know what? even if Obama's mother had been traveling abroad when she gave birth to her son, he still would have acquired US citizenship upon their return to the US. It's the law. So, even if Obama hadn't been born in Hawaii, he'd still be a "natural born" US citizen because his mother was, and be eligible for the Presidency anyway. |

This was precisely the reason he DIDN'T release it, so he could stoke the controversy for his own political gain (mostly allowing him to fire up the base by claiming the other side were racist nutjobs).I specifically said few on the right actually believed Obama was not eligible for the presidency. Most conservatives, from Rush Limbaugh to Andrew Breitbart never wavered from this assertion. They simply maintained that Obama's excuses for not doing what he did today were lies and that he was using Birthers for his own gain. They were right. |

Again, as I said in an earlier post, Obama DID release his birth certificate at the beginning of his campaign--that is the same "short form" birth document you'd get if you lived in Hawaii. Normally, the "long form" is represented by the "short form", and as both are equal in the eyes of the law, there should have been no want or need to release the "long form". The Hawaii DOH did not send out the "long form"--they gave the White House a stamped, certified copy, which is within the bounds of Hawaii law.Obama didn't put his "long form" out there because he had already furnished the election Board with the "short form", which, obviously, was acceptable to them. Obama didn't "lie" or "make excuses" for not releasing his "long form"--with his previous release of the "short form", bringing out his "long form" never should have been necessary. |

Title 8, USC, sec. 1409, para. (C) deals with that. It says children born to unwed American mothers after December 24, 1952, are US citizens, provided the mother has lived in the US for one full year at any time before the baby's birth. This would, AFAIK, include President Obama, whether or not his mother was married.For a child born of an unwed, US citizen father, it's a little more complicated. The father, if still living, has the same one-year residency requirement in the US, plus he must agree to child support for the baby until it reaches age 18, and legal paternity of the baby is sworn to, in writing, by the father or "a competent court". |

It says "at any time before the birth" of the child. Since Obama's mother spent at least one full year in the US before adulthood, I would imagine that fulfills this requirement. |
