People who buy old rundown buildings without fixing them kinda deserve their lossesOld doesn't mean "rundown". And who says they aren't "fixed"? ANd even better, take away the incentive to INVEST in refurbishing housing stock. Yes, that's a great idea, make older buildings unattractive for investment.....depreciate their value so people can't sell them. Then the city can take them over and let the city wollow back into the 70's. As to subsidies for low income people, that's socialism. That's what your party is working to destroy. So THEN what? I am not the one saying there should be "subsidies", but if there are "subsidies", of which Rent Stabilization/Control is, it doesn't belong at the hands of private individuals. |

I still think the whole "RINO" thing is stupid. If they're unacceptable, don't put them on the ballot if "purity of essence" is so damned important. I remember when the republican party wasn't so damned insane. |

The way some landlords get rid of tenants here in NYC, is to dial 911, and report that said tenant is storing guns, drugs, or explosives in their apartment. The NYPD storms in, locks up the tenant as a possible terrorist and/or drug dealer, and by the time the tenant gets out of Central Booking, the landlord has obtained a restraining order preventing the tenant (as a "suspected" terrorist and/or drug dealer) from moving back in. It ain't really legal OR kosher, but a tenant who can't pay their rent, also can't afford a lawyer to fight this nonsense in court. For landlords, if all else fails, there is ALWAYS a way to get those "troublesome" tenants out. |

I've been assigned to jobs where the "severity of the complaint" was enough to warrant an arrest pending further investigation. We were called as a standby unit in case there were actual explosives on the scene. There weren't, but it took ESU and the Bomb Squad all damn night to go through the place...anyone accused of having major-weight drugs, guns, or explosives in NYC will get taken into custody until proven otherwise. The alternative, not arresting a person accused of these things, and later finding out the allegations are true, opens the city up to lawsuits. |

My sister-in-law had a tenant that moved into her house and never paid any rent. Due to the tenant knowing how to scam the system and California making it impossible to quickly evict anyone that doesn't want to be evicted she ended up living there for maybe 9 months and never paid rent. My sister-in-law lost her house because of it. I would have called the cops to help her out had I known. |

Yes, then the next morning, when they find nothing, then the tenant goes home, back to said apartment, and Landlord still has him.Of explosives are found, well then Landlord did a favor.... |
