I've been assigned to jobs where the "severity of the complaint" was enough to warrant an arrest pending further investigation. We were called as a standby unit in case there were actual explosives on the scene. There weren't, but it took ESU and the Bomb Squad all damn night to go through the place...anyone accused of having major-weight drugs, guns, or explosives in NYC will get taken into custody until proven otherwise. The alternative, not arresting a person accused of these things, and later finding out the allegations are true, opens the city up to lawsuits. |
