Cinco de Mayo is defintely plugged more on the radio than St Patricks, but only probably because it has to be plugged to remind people of it....again, it's mostly plugged by businesses trying to attract 20-somethings to go out and drink that night.... They don't need to plug St Patricks day, as people go out whether it's plugged or not, and people of all ages. So many firehouses and churches out here on the Island has corn beef and cabbage dinners, and stuff like that. Bars have specials, etc. It's not just the 20-somethings going out on St Patricks like it is on Cinco de Mayo.

That's the only thing I can compliment McDonald's on, as their food sucks....they are usually clean. (Carl's standards are not as high). In fact, aside from Wendy's, I don't think any fast food place comes to the cleanliness standards of McDonalds.
And my McDonalds is QUICK. Even if there is a long line at the drive thru, it takes seconds. They almost throw the food into you car as you drive past it's so fast.

Yeah, as I said, McDonalds are CONSISTENTLY clean. No matter where you go, 99% of the time, they are clean.
I think Carls food blows McD away (in fact, I think almost all of the others blow McDonalds away), but Carls were all pretty dirty, at least the ones I have been in in California. Jack's were also usually pretty bad. White Castles usually were bad too.
Arby's used to be, but most of the ones I have been in recently are clean now...but still not quite McDondalds levels. Burger Kings are usually cleaner than Jacks or Carls in my experience, but also BK is hit or miss too, I have been in some really clean ones, but also been in some really dirty ones.

In my experience, Jacks and Carls were some of the dirtiest fast food places I have been in....and McDonalds and Wendy's the cleanest, but McDonalds still winning.

Sept 16th is Independence Day in Mexico. It's a huge national holiday. But Cinco has been so commercialized in the US, mainly by the old Tichenor Radio Group who wanted a big holiday for advertisers, so it's big in the US as a result.

209/715 is a joke compared to what I see in Queens and Manhattan

Sometimes it's backed up for miles on 209 westbound, before the 715 traffic light. And even worse, it's a two-lane highway. However, they aren't planning a Brodheadsville bypass in the same way 209's supposed to get a bypass around Marshalls Creek.

North 9th's needs a better traffic light

Needs better synchronization, to be sure, at Bridge Street. Their selective widening of the highway from two to four lanes in short stretches isn't helping either.

You're right about 209 s/b being backed up going into Brodheadsville. Still, I don't find it to be stressful compared to what I know Queens and Manhattan to be like.

Still can't find anything in NYC, so I brought four Shamrock Shakes down from Stroudsburg. Everyone enjoyed them.

I asked IHOP why they purposely moved "Pancake Day" back a week. I asked if they were afraid that non-Christians or atheists would complain or feel alienated. They said it was moved back in order to obtain sponsors for charity.

While I was out doing a photo shoot yesterday, I looked in the McDonalds on 39th/8th, 42 bet. 7th/8th, and on my way up to another studio, 70/Broadway, just to test Luch's theory. None of them had Shamrock Shakes, and the McDonalds nearest my house, Springfield/Linden, doesn't carry them, either. I'm still looking.

Interestingly, the "black Barbie doll" was actually first marketed by Mattel in the '70s as "Cara" and sold at the same price as Barbie. IIRC, there was even a 1970's United Airlines cross-marketing scheme, Barbie's Friend Ship, a plane on which Barbie was a stewardess--this was before the term "flight attendant" came into use--and Cara was included in this campaign. I clearly remember seeing old issues of Ebony with Cara and the Friend Ship around the holidays. The Mattel action figure for boys, "Big Jim" also had a plane set, but it wasn't cross-marketed with an airline, if memory serves...

The outrage now is over Walmart selling black dolls for much less than a white Barbie doll. That's the kind of PC policing that McDonald's is aware of when banning Shamrock and Eggnog Shakes in NY and other "diverse" markets.

These things ARE "participating restaurant" deals ... I'd bet that at least within the city, has to do with traffic volume and having to take a blender out of service for the one item and the volume actually sold doesn't justify the downtime. But it'd be an interesting question for Wolf Blitzer to put up on the big screen. Hell, Glenn Beck could probably flap his gums for a whole hour on this one. :)
