I'd actually want to know if Walmart had overstock of "black Barbie dolls", and priced them to move, before I'd get all upset over it. As for the Shamrock Shake, I wonder how much sway McDonald's corporation has over its francisees. I would think if an individual NYC franchise wanted Shamrock Shake mix, they could order it, perhaps even through an arrangement with an out-of-area McDonald's... |

I just spoke to the franchise owner of the McDonald's location @ Myrtle and Wycoff. He confirmed that NYC locations were not offered the opportunity to sell Shamrock OR Eggnog Shakes. "We weren't offered them, but I know they are doing it in New Jersey this year". This explains why Spider-Pig was able to buy one in Hobeken. I told the owner that I suspect political correctness is the reason McDonald's may not want their holiday shakes on the menu in diverse, liberal, markets, like Manhattan, Queens, and Long Island. They owner said he never heard such a thing. Fair enough. "The PC police would pull McDonald's over if they sold these holiday shakes here", I told the owner. |

If a story about the absence of Shamrock Shakes in the NYC market ran, it might actually benefit Mickey D's, because such a story could drive up demand for them. The McDonald's corporation might decide dollar signs outweigh protest signs, and bring back the green treats. IIRC, there used to be an orange shake and a banana shake, so McD's can't say Shamrock Shakes are too unique... |
