"I usually ask for a knife and fork to eat it."""That's how many Italians eat it."" So did my wife from California. I had to teach her to pick it up, fold it in half, and mangia. Although, I have to admit, some of these top-heavy pies today require a knife a fork; the crust is not thick enough to support all the toppings. |

Maybe Luch can get some of them illegal immigrants to come and show NYC how it's done. Many Mexican thingies are like that and yet you can learn how to fold them and keep most of the "toppings" inside. It's all in how you use your palm. :) |

Pan fried or griddle fried bacon is better than microwaved. Many people have settled for microwave cooked food out of convenience. And yes, it's a lot more convenient to simply microwave cook bacon and the result isn't deeply inferior to pan or griddle fried, but it's noticeably lesser.your pal, Fred |

When I get pie from the regular "pizza joint" I jazz it up with red pepper flakes, maybe a little thyme or garlic powder. When I go to one of those coal-fired oven places, then I add nothing. Those places usually use the good Italian sausage made with a noticeable amount of fennel. To me, the flavor is all there and no need for spicing. My favorite pizza is the white clam pie at Pepe's. These are freshly shucked clams that go on the pizza, not canned. Frank Pepe was reportedly allergic to tomato sauce so he developed a white pizza back in the late 20's. your pal, Fred |

Couldn't agree more on "real pizza," not that "Baker's Pride" crap. Over in New Scotland, we have a former chain restaurant that had wood fired pizza (and no, it doesn't smell or taste like bacon, the wood is used only to make heat) and is now owned by its former manager. They make quattro formage to DIE for ... needs nothing, not even salt. But back in the city, I'd douse mine with all the usual stuff - oregano, lots of garlic (since there wasn't any in the pie) and depending on the other toppings, I'd add some parmesan along with the peppers, salt, etc. But GOOD pizza doesn't need anything beyond what's on the pie. :) |

I have a few things in my freezer that were bought for "nuking" in the microwave.Cheese sticks, Frozen fish, potato skins. The cooking directions state: NOT MEANT FOR MICROWAVE PREPARATION. I didn't buy them. They were gifts when I was a patient in the hospital. I also agree with your statement about microwaved bacon. I like the theory behind the cooking tray part about it. It's convenient but noticeably lessor than pan or griddle fried. |
