Low or no water pressure in the hydrants is greatly complicating firefighting. Because the area's so hilly, huge tanks on top of the hills provide pressure for high-elevation hydrants. Unfortunately, the tanks have run dry and the hydrants at lower elevations are using so much water there's not enough to pump up to the tanks to refill them. |

The catastrophic results of the multiple fires are the fault of the voters who voted for the progressive democrats and their progressive policies. They took millions from the fire department, neglected proper land management and instead, plowed all their resources into Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & ultimate failure. You replace competence and vision with skin color and slogans. You've gotten exactly what you voted for. |

Bad or corrupt leadership (of any persuasion) has only two results. The status quo doesn't break, and they take credit for things they are too incompetent to break or fix. Put their names on a few builings, and are set for life.Or the %@$% (or sh!t (to makes these threads intersectional with mine from yesterday))) hits the fan and devastation happens, highlighting their true qualifications. This is why politicians and CEO's like to kick the can down the road. The anxiety is the waiting to see if the can goes off during your tenure, of if you are the one that gets screwed. |

I saw so many memes about this."California Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Fire Chief Kristin Crowley stood before the roaring Pacific Ocean, delivering an emotional plea about the dire water crisis fueling the Palisades Fire. The blaze, now tearing through the scenic Pacific Palisades, has overwhelmed firefighting efforts, with officials lamenting a critical shortage of water" "If we only had an enormous body of water next to us!" Governor Newsom exclaimed, gesturing toward the horizon where the ocean stretched endlessly, reported the Genesius Times. Despite the irony of standing near one of the world’s largest water sources, officials appeared to skirt its potential use. Chief Crowley, visibly distressed, described the situation grimly. “We’re out of water to fight this fire. We’ve exhausted all resources,” she said, her focus firmly on the billowing smoke rather than the ocean. Expand article logo Continue reading The absurdity didn’t escape the gathered press. A reporter eventually broke the tension with the obvious question: “We’re standing next to the Pacific Ocean. Isn’t that an option?” Crowley’s response was both baffling and inflammatory. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Are you a racist bigot?” she retorted, leaving reporters and onlookers stunned, reported the Genesius Times. Social media erupted in disbelief. Hashtags like #OceanBlindness and #WaterRightThere began trending, with users blending humor and frustration. “Maybe they should just look left,” quipped one user, sharing a photo of the sprawling ocean alongside the wildfire's smoke. CIT Bank Platinum Savings - Higher Balance, Higher Rate. cit.com CIT Bank Platinum Savings - Higher Balance, Higher Rate. Ad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfHlRdr-E7g While the officials’ apparent oversight provided ample fodder for memes, environmental experts stepped in to provide clarity. They highlighted the challenges of using seawater for firefighting, including its corrosive nature and the ecological concerns of large-scale extraction. “It’s not as simple as dumping ocean water on the fire,” one activist explained, though critics argued this was a moment for pragmatic, not philosophical, solutions. The state is now scrambling to revise its emergency response strategy, with potential plans including mobile desalination units and equipment to use ocean water effectively. Governor Newsom sought to refocus on the urgency of the situation, saying, “We’re doing everything in our power to combat this fire. We’re in uncharted waters here—no pun intended.” |

Mayor Bass disappointed a lot of people by her silence when questioned by reporters. She simply looked blank, looked totally inept and stupid and could have passed for someone drugged and semi-comatose. There was some hope when she was elected major but things have only gotten worse with her in command. To be fair, she hasn't had a good team behind her at all, and the homeless problem has become much worse since she took over. The problem is Bass us just one of dozens of LA's command that seems to be in over her head.I just hope that ineptness doesn't trickle out to the suburban cities like Arcadia where I live and where the city fathers seem to be doing a decent job. In other words.....LA LEADERS, STAY THE HELL OUT OF MY CITY. |

To be fair to Mayor Bass she was handed a hot potato when elected Mayor. The town was going to hell in hand basket and she had the courage or maybe the foolishness of trying to take a job that was risky at best. The problem is LA and California in general is bright blue, loaded with liberals who put the smelt ahead of people, cheer on illegals while hard working citizens in the city are overwhelmed with high grocery prices, rents on even average housing is out of sight, where wages have stagnated and crime is still high even if the city fathers want to claim otherwise. And it doesn't help when native and residing Angelenos take a back seat to the avalanche of illegals and criminals making their way to the city. |

You can't really pump water over 6 stories without a watertank or some massive pumps. So how is it that there are rest rooms on the top floor of pretty much every tall building? They pump water up to a water tank on the roof, and it flows down from there. The reason for the tank is to smooth out the flow. It allows multiple people on upper floors to flush a toilet at the same time, temporarily exceeding the capacity of the pumps. You can't pull water up more than 33 feet with a pump, but there is no limit on how high you can push water with a pump. And the reason buildings of 7 stories or less usually don't have water tanks, is because the municipal supply is stored at a higher elevation than the top floor of the buildings. For example, the Jerome Park Reservoir in the Bronx is at an altitude of 115 feet. The Hillview reservoir in southern Yonkers is at 295 feet. |

Rooftop tanks can supply water for most purposes but will quickly run out of water during firefighting. That requires standpipes, though in the case of the One Meridian Plaza fire in Philadelphia in 1991 even they weren't enough. |

The firemen walk up to the 78th or 79th floor, connect their hoses to the standpipes there, and carry the hoses up to the flames. Very powerful pumper trucks supply the water. In any more ordinary high rise fire, the water tanks on the roof are going to run dry pretty soon anyway, so they would have to follow that same process. It is this process that resulted in most of the firefighter deaths. They were inside the North* or South Tower trying to get to the flames as the tower collapsed. * Radios didn't work, so many firefighters in the North Tower didn't get the order to evacuate. |

Poor radio communications meant that no one knows for certain just how high firefighters were able to ascend in the North Tower before the collapse. The National Institute of Standards and Technology estimated it to be around the 50th floor, based on how long it takes firefighters in full gear and carrying hoses to ascend staircases (about one story a minute, with a few minutes' rest every 10 to 15 floors). Radios worked better in the South Tower so it's known that Battalion Chief Orio Palmer reached the 78th floor elevator lobby - the "Gore Floor" - about a minute before the tower collapsed. He had found a working elevator that got him to the 40th floor and walked up an additional 38 flights. |

Suppose they had water tanks atop both WTC towers with all that weight. Add the weight of those planes that hit. Adding the weight of the aircraft to the weight of the water might have been too much for the structures to carry and might have brought them down much sooner. Just speculation here. |
