Let's face it though. Cities like New York Hell LA, Frisco, Chi Town, Philly, have become crappy places to live compared to a few decades ago. And those in charge seem unable to move the needle in a positive direction.

Watching those news stations leaves you madder than when you first tuned in. I still don't know what news station is totally independent to give both sides to an argument. TV news of any kind is pretty pointless. It has low information density and is always sensationalist. You want good information, the news pages of the WSJ, WaPo, and NY Times are fairly decent, as long as you watch out for their biases. Their opinion pages are all seriously suspect.

So those cheap units cannot be passed on to other low end renters unless the landlord opts for it.

Like if they weren't around in the '90s. Some of the other things were also pretty minor, like the bike lanes. It is part of New York City but from what I remember when last visited it almost 20 years ago it looked like a nice place to live with a great deal of neat homes and greenery to make it almost suburban like. Please don't tell me that it has gone to seed too. I was impressed with what I saw there back in the day and hope it is still a place where New Yorkers can still live in the city and not be inundated with smoke skies and some foul air like to many big cities today.....and, yes, that includes the two big ones in my state.

I'll guess that I'm several months older than you. That said, back in the 70s WABC TV pioneered in the concept of "happy news". The 6 O'clock news was anchored by Roger Grimbsy and Bill Beutel. It tried to put a light hearted spin on the stories of the day. The concept worked. Ratings went thru the roof. It all came crashing down when weatherman Tex Antoine made a lighthearted comment about how women should react while being raped. He was fired before the show was over & happy news suddenly got serious.
