Masks and political affiliation(personal observation)

Posted by LuchAAA on Sat Mar 5 04:24:29 2022

With mask mandates easing, and becoming optional, I think over the next few months we'll see masks become flags for ones political identity.

Naturally the conservatives and centrists won't wear one.

The Left? They'll continue to mask up. This will be especially true at the university level and to a lesser extent in high schools.

You'll also notice, in urban environments, young people wearing a mask at the supermarket, in line at Starbucks, etc.....

But in universities I can see some heated debates.

I don't think masks will "become flags for one's political identity ". As mask mandates get eased or eliminated, I think people on both sides will use their own judgment about when, or whether, to wear masks. (I might not wear a mask at Wawa, but I would still put one on to enter a hospital.) I'm just fine with the easing or ending of mask mandates as conditions warrant. For example, Philadelphia, where I live, has gone to "all-clear", meaning that except for public transportation, masks are now optional indoors (individual businesses can still require them). That's a good sign; getting back to life as we lived it before 2020 will be just the tonic we need to get everybody going again.

Ok.

Well I think I'll be right. Not sure about Wawa, but at a Whole Foods I'm guessing you'll see a lot of women and beta males wearing one.

At the university level I'll be 100% correct.

Hey everyone, keep an eye open and observe what kind of people are wearing a mask at the store, on the street, etc....

I think I'll be mostly right.

for example, look at the Desantis controversy in Florida and who was wearing a mask to oppose him.

Masks are very much be used to express one's views on politics.

Many Leftists post here but they're mostly old now so I don't know how they behave in public but younger Leftists most likely will wear a mask as much as possible and welcome conflict and debate.

I don’t think it’s political. I’ll wear a mask if requested to, like at the store. Things like medical visits require masks anyway so that’s a no brainer. Right now I have a cold so I wear a mask when I go into enclosed public places so i don’t spread it. I think it’s really only the anti-mask fascists who consider it a political sign because they’ve condescended on people who wore a mask and it’s just another reason they can attack people outside their political beliefs

A lot of Asians were wearing masks in the city before 2020 and will continue to. It’s really none of your business if somebody wants to wear a mask. It’s you who is thinking it’s a political sign and making a judgment. If somebody wants to wear a mask it’s their business. If somebody thinks they need to wear a hat everywhere they go, it’s their business. If somebody wants to spend Sunday morning in a building watching a guy wearing a dress holding up a cracker that’s their business. If somebody wants to eat meat that’s their business. You’re no better than the fanatical vegan PETA types when you make a stink about people wearing masks

I'm making a prediction.

I won't say shit. It's the Left in universities and big cities like NYC who will proudly wear a mask.

Go to any Whole Foods on NYC or CT and over the next 2 months you'll see I was right.

The kind of store that would require a mask would ban Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

It was the Left that was orgasmic over the mandates, vax passports, and shaming tactics, using "science" to try and silence opposition.

Anyway, to my point, notice who's wearing a mask where it's voluntary and you'll see how partisan the issue is. THIW

Most of us have had enough of right wing science.
By the way, a peer reviewed study of ivermectin pronounced it useless against Covid. Another example of right wing “science”. At least it wasn’t fish tank cleaner or Clorox.

My main problem with the entire mask thing is the lack of metrics, at least any made known to the public.

Why is now the right time? Why not last week? Why not next week? Why not when the death rate is lower than now, or why not when it was higher than now?

Nobody asked the big questions - like what case rate or death rate is tolerable, and what isn't?

This is the main reason why the masks are political - there's no metric to target, and presumably never was.

Up until this thread, I had always considered it Forest Hills (albeit as far southwest as you can get). I don't think of Glendale as anywhere east of Woodhaven Blvd and think of Rego Park as further north. The Q23 bus destination sign says Forest Hills and may have led me to that conclusion. I'm sure there are official lines somewhere but those are my perceptions.

In my experience the only place that required masks to be worn the past month or so has been the Apple Store. I walked in without a mask and an employee told me I had to wear a mask. Even public transit hasn't said anything. I've been riding maskless on the LIRR for over a year and nobody said anything. On the subway I go with the flow. If everyone is wearing one I have one on nose exposed. If I see 2 or 3 without masks I don't wear one.

If you pass an outdoor TV or movie set, please don't judge people wearing masks outdoors as it's a requirement of the job. Production companies actually have mask nazis going to everyone either not wearing masks or not wearing them correctly. Some production companies will give someone a K95 mask if they're wearing a surgical mask. The stupidity is they have you take them off while the camera is shooting.
