Something that's just like a cold, except for the 1,000 deaths per day. The media isn't making those up.

The media lies by omission. Of those deaths, you never hear about vaccination status or comorbidities, not to mention is someone dies from a heart attack, car accident, stroke or cancer complications & is covid positive.
Being covid positive will not be listed at the primary cause of death on the DC, but since that patient was reported as covid positive to the authorities, it gets lumped into the covid death total.

Sorry, that's right wing propaganda. The number of people who die of something else while having covid just isn't that big.

Besides, I said 1,000 people are dying per day. The stats actually say 1,300. Maybe 100 of those 1300 are really just dying with covid and not of covid. It's still more than 10 times the number dying in car accidents.

You are hypothesizing that overall omicron is no worse than a bad cold. I hope you are right. However, preliminary evidence seems to show that while omicron is considerably less bad than delta, it's also considerably worse than a cold.

Agreed. The time for upending society is over. But mask mandates for attending a performance, as an example, do not upend society. Closing non-essential businesses, as some countries have done after previously even ending all masking rules, does upend society and is crazy.

I’m opposed to the mask mandates simply because you can go to a restaurant without a mask, so why is a theater different? IMO, either mask or proof of vaccine, not both.

Yesterday I wrote the subway two stops and didn’t have a mask (actually I did, but it was in my jacket pocket and I didn’t look there, it wasn’t in my coat pocket), so I just wore a scarf backwards for show. I’m sure it had no effect whatsoever and I don’t care.

Yet these hypocrites go crawling to the hospital when they come down with it and take up space needed for really sick and injured people. "Illegal aliens" and indigent patients are only given the bare minimum treatment required to make them just well enough to push back out the front door. That is all US hospitals are legally required to do.

Hospitals often turn away those who can't pay.

And if you treated in the emergency room and don't have insurance you may be discharged when the life-threatening emergency is over, even though the appropriate medical procedure would be to admit you into the hospital as an inpatient.

I do agree that treating people who do risky stuff differently from a financial perspective is a slippery slope that doesn't work.

However, I also think that it's unfair to charge people without insurance more than the insurance company is charged if they do have insurance, a common practice.
