I agree. Leave the man alone. Wheres Gerald Ford now that we really need him? We as a nation cannot turn the page if the Trump melodrama is extended and old wounds are reopened. Biden has a golden opportunity to heal wounds and help the nation move on by insisting that this vindictive charade that passes for an impeachment trial be stopped.
Ford pardoned Nixon because he thought it was the best thing for the country, not the party. Trump is being brought to trial to benefit the Dems agenda and the hell with the concept of moving on or healing. BIden promised a competent and compassionate government. He should prove he wasn't lying by ordering a stop to this unconstitutional waste of time happening with this trial.
Bottom line here, Trump is out of office, Impeachment power does not apply to ex presidents. Even if a trial happens, it will not reveal anything we don't already know. Keeping a nation divided just to punish Trump will serve no purpose.

I don't think so. It took them 6 years to recover from Nixon (1974 - 1980), but what Nixon did was child's play, and there was an incompetent Carter, who Democrats turned their back on, and voted for Anderson, who got 7% of the vote, handing the election to Reagan and a Republican Senate. We are now taking about a 3rd Reich style, violent sedition, and fascism, based on lies, not an amateurish burglary of a HQ.

Funny thing is, while Governor Ducey was signing off the election certification, Trump called him on his cell to stop him. Ducey ignored the call like it was spam, and went on with it. It was all televised.

The stupid Arizona GOP has now "censured" Ducey, Mrs McCain, and Flake, all of whom proudly wear it like a badge of honor.

First off, Nixon had nothing to do with the burglary. It was his covering it up that led to the impeachable obstruction of justice charge. What Nixon did was a slam dunk on conviction. Every republican turned their backs on him. He had no choice but to resign. The question about Trump's direct connection to the rioters that broke onto the White House is vague & circumstantial, nowhere near as cut & dry the evidence v/s Nixon was. Theres no "smoking gun" hear akin to the 18 minute tape gap in Nixon's case. Trump still has republican supporters whereas Nixon did not.
Bottom line here, if it comes to trial and based of solid evidence he gets convicted, then so be it. He pays his debt to society & that will be the end of him.

Unfortunately, the limits of what's considered intolerable have also dropped considerably. Look how many people made excuses about the riot, how fast the politicians backpedaled from impeaching Trump, the election of either nutcases or conspiracy opportunists, and how the right-wing media is still feeding the same crap. You or I may not be consuming Fox or Newsmax, but a vast number of Republicans are. What do you think it will do to a person's mindset, with that being their only source of news, day in and day out?

OK, let's assume you're right. There's still the matter of total voter count. They have a list of x million people who purportedly sent in ballots. And all those people have been checked to be valid registered voters.

So how do you send in fake votes? Yeah, sure, a couple of hundred people probably voted for their senile grandparents. But those will be for both candidates. If you send a legit ballot for yourself, and then send in another where you claim to be me, that's great, unless I happen to send in a ballot too. Then your trick gets caught.

And there just weren't significant numbers of cases where two ballots were sent in under the same name.

You know why the Trump Campaign eventually gave up in AZ? Because they could only find 191 irregularities to question. If you were right they would have found tens of thousands.

The fact is, little man, that in at least 5 states, the rules governing elections were changed, not by the legislatures as required but by the executive branch of those states. Whether or not, those changes affected the election outcome, or if the Supreme Court will ultimately rule those changes unconstitutional, THERE IS YOUR FUCKERY. It couldn't be any plainer.

We know what Trump did. He repeatedly claimed the election was stolen, while his lawyers filed 62 court cases, none of which alleged fraud. He said what he said in his speech on 1/6, including giving thumbs up to Rudy's call for trial by combat. And if he didn't mean for his listeners to storm the Capitol, it sure took him long enough to tell them to leave.

So the question is, is that such improper conduct that he should be barred from ever seeking federal office, or not?

Compare this to Senators alleging that Clinton committed perjury about his personal sex life because he deceived through sneaky use of the word "is."

it was less than the vote differential

Every one of the cases presented wasn't just about less than the vote differential. Every case was either (a) not fraud but a procedural challenge that should have been brought before the election or (b) involving an infinitesimal fraction of the vote margin.

In AZ, the Trump campaign had 191 voting instances to challenge.

Point by point...

"He repeatedly claimed the election was stolen,..."

True, but he could never prove it. That makes it an opinion.

"He said what he said in his speech on 1/6, including giving thumbs up to Rudy's call for trial by combat."

You have interpretation v/s criminal intent. Thats for the courts to decide.

"And if he didn't mean for his listeners to storm the Capitol, it sure took him long enough to tell them to leave."

That is indefensible. Whatever good Trump did during his term will be obliterated by the memory of Jan 6

"...that he should be barred from ever seeking federal office, or not?"

You're giving credence to too many lies here.

Every attempt to prove the fraud case was blocked. That's on record. No discovery was permitted whatsoever.

How is telling "his listeners" to stop actions they were not at the Capitol to commit "indefensible"?? Trump started speaking 20 minutes after the Antifa thugs in "MAGA gear" were allowed (yes) into the Capitol.
