Stimulus debit cards

Posted by Are dee em on Fri May 29 19:49:54 2020

Received my stimulus payment today in the debit card format. Envelope says Money Network Financial. So many dumbbells out there are tossing it thinking it’s junk mail. Even after opening it and reading the enclosed insert from the US Treasury they still toss it convinced it’s a scam of some sort. Some folks out there are so dumb that you can’t even figure out a way to hand them money. All hope is lost in this country.

Lighten up a little. I've gotten mine today also. The problem here is that I was expecting a paper check. Instead I got the same thing you got. Who the hell is "Money Financial Network"? If that don't seem like a bullshit outfit, nothing does.
How the hell is someone going to know that their stimulus $$$ is going to come in the form of a debit card? I've gotten invitations from scammers in the mail inviting me to get a credit card with a $1000 credit line (at 29% interest). They go right into my shredder. This almost made it there too. Just happened to open up the envelope, read the literature & lo and behold it was the stimulus $$$. Too bad it don't work. Got my personal pin, credit line verification & thought I was good to go. Wrong. Time to work the phones tomorrow
Bottom line, its easy to mistake the debit card from Uncle Sam for a scam offer the way its adressed. In our currently paranoid society, the worst case scenario is always suspected.
Too bad we all can't be as smart as you

I could've guessed that. It's amazing the stuff people leave out and throw out at the mailbox. I could record everyones information without opening or stealing a single envelope.

Finally got mine to work. After a 15 min wait on the phone, the kind cust. service rep heard my plea, got a polite "just a moment" & she weaved some magic to activate my card. She advised me that whenever used, if you get a screen menu prompt after plugging in my pin # that shows Savings account, checking account, or credit/debit options, always select checking account (even thought the card says "debit" right under the Visa logo).
Gave it a test at my nearest ATM & lo and behold, it worked. However got whacked with a $3 fee for using an out of network ATM, even though the literature I got with the card said that there would be no ATM fees whatsoever. Debating on weather to get back on the phone or just eat the fee & be done with it. All in all, its still "found money"

There are no fees from the card’s bank but there are still fees from whatever ATM you use. Can you transfer the money to your own bank account?

I want to add that I read about this BS* card and I suggest that Jim not eat the ATM fee. There is no ATM fee only for the first withdrawal, then it’s $2 per transaction, on top of whatever your out of network ATM charges. And there’s a limit of $1000 per day. So if you pay the $3 to get your first $1000, you’ll have to pay $5 to get your remaining $192. It may be found money, but it’s found taxpayers’ money, and a lot of that came from yourself, and that $8 doesn’t go back to Uncle Sam, it goes to [Greedy Banker Character]. So it is definitely worth it to do an ACH.

More info: Don't remember what it was, but there is a chain of participating ATMs where no fee is charged for withdrawals on this card. You have to visit the website for the ATM locator, where you can also sign up for online access, which would allow you to arrange a free ACH.

I am not going to read all the posts in this thread but let me say this:

Any ATM that accepts "ALL-POINT" is supposed to accept the card at no fee! Those are the in-network ATMs (The ALL-POINT) ATM I tried would not give me cash after several attempts

My bank told me that they could not take the money on the card and deposit into my checking or savings account. It could also not be done on the bank ATM. I was told that I had to withdraw the money at $500 per day (plus fees from both banks) and deposit it in cash.

I finally called the automated Customer Service number and was able to provide account and routing numbers and transfer the funds in one shot to one of my accounts.

I am assuming that they switched to these debit cards because someone in congress had a small family owned bank that benefitted from a sudden massive infusion of cash. It certainly didn't make things easier.

Absolutely. No doubt that one that. I even think they took a fee out before you even cash out? Ill admit, i had to do my research and ensure. Ill likely cash the money out in one go and deposit it.

It’s pretty easy. Call the 800 number and activate the card same as any credit card. Give yourself a pin. Then go on the website, register by giving yourself a user I’d and password. Then follow the prompts and put the entire amount in your checking or savings account by providing your routing and account number. Takes 10 minutes, print a receipt, the following day check your account. Your $2400 or whatever will be there. No fee. Toss the card, it’s empty and has no value. No bank trip, no atm trip.

Yes. The cards are a bit of a pain. Best to get the value out of them quickly rather than carry them around. Best not to even activate them until you’re ready to do that.
