Let's look at the dates and compare them with the situation on the ground at the time they were issued. On March 5th DeBlasio noted the first instance of human-to-human transmission in NYC. There were a total of 4 cases within NYC. The tweet that you posted was from March 2nd, when there were 2 cases and they those people had been staying at home. These people had been staying at home since mid February, without any additional spreading. The posted tweets from Council Member Levine and Health Commissioner Barbot are dated February 9th. That's well before there were any recorded Covid cases in NYC. It was also well before the up to 14 day delay between being communicable and testing positive or showing symptoms. |

Splitting hairs, though. Implying that the Democrats' warnings of the severity of the virus were a "hoax" = tantamount to suggesting the whole epidemic is a "hoax".Put another way, if I say reports of an approaching Category V hurricane are a "hoax" because I think it's not going to be a dangerous storm, what might people infer from that, if I'm a high-ranking officer of the government? |

I'd take what their govt says with a grain of salt too, but their economy is starting up, while ours is foundering. They can manufacture many of the items we use today, low tech and high tech, and we can't. When they needed masks, they just ordered millions of them from the factories in their country. Where are we getting ours? |

Thank you. NYC is the US epicenter because of this nonsense. Mark Levine is the chair of the City Council's health committee and he's shown above telling people on 2/9 that Coronavirus is no big deal.Seattle is handling things pretty well despite it having been hit earlier. Diblasio was forced by his staff to close NYC schools (NY Times, 3/16). There is a reason decisions like lockdowns and whatnot need to be taken on the local level. To DiBlasio's credit he did eventually realize he fucked up and tried to lockdown the whole city, and Cuomo overruled him (CBS News, 3/18). Other than better testing I'm failing to see any politician who would have done better. Hell, the NYC/New Rochelle outbreak is traced to a traveller from Iran - how well would Trump banning travel from Iran (before February 29) have gone over? Everyone would have wailed "racist!" at him. Beyond the travel ban there's nothing that can be done that's not the responsibility of the local level. Federal action doesn't make sense beyond border control - the bottom 20 states on this list (starting with Vermont) for example will never have a need for a lockdown, it's too sparse. |

I agree testing is huge and the Trump Admin's biggest failure. A complete, total, miserable failure on all fronts. I doubt Trump realizes it is actually impeding him from his goal of re-opening the economy; we don't have an accurate infection:hospitalization:death ratio due to lack of testing for asymptomatic cases. Might we have small patches of herd immunity already? who knows! And currently no way to test if someone silently had it and recovered thinking it was a cold, so that data is lost until the antibody test is developed.Beds are a state thing, NYS got rid of 20000 hospitals beds courtesy Pataki and Paterson. There aren't really Federal hospitals, so not much other than floating hospital ships into position can be done on the Federal level (for the future we should probably build some more) or repurposing areas like the Javitz Center. Facemasks: China makes half the world's supply and is Hoarding Them (understandably). On this point, Trump was way ahead of the curve, he was trying to "encourage" manufacturing to move back here via tariffs while the (non-Bernie) left were continuously criticizing him. Ventilators: those things cost 36k/each thanks to the cozy relationship between the FDA and medical device manufacturers, and they have an expiration date, so stockpiling them would be pointless. They had to issue a waiver to allow ambulance ventilators to be used in hospitals and beyond their shelf life (2nd bullet pt on list) - there's that level of red tape around these devices. So bureaucracy is why there was a shortage, and lifting the bureaucracy is the solution. Without the state of emergency, no one was lifting any red tape, and if the state of emergency was declared too early, media would be saying "omg Trump is a dictator" so I fail to see how the timeline on this could have been meaningfully moved up. As for the video, it repeats the hoax line out of context. Politifact rates it as completely false. Trump was downplaying it, absolutely. But what should he have said, "I want you to panic. Buy all the food and toilet paper RIGHT NOW!" That's what the commentators I was watching on Youtube were saying (minus the TP) in February, and they were being dismissed as whackaloons by the twitter blue check "journalists" with fancy WaPo and NYT bylines. Hindsight is 20/20, and I have 3 months of food and TP because it was being downplayed in February and I haven't needed to go out in this mayhem. |

"Free trade" is not merely backed by the left. It's safer to say that the establishment backs it, and that runs the spectrum from left to right, for different reasons. So bureaucracy is why there was a shortage, and lifting the bureaucracy is the solution. Without the state of emergency, no one was lifting any red tape, and if the state of emergency was declared too early, media would be saying "omg Trump is a dictator" If somebody paid to produce them, they would have gotten produced. It's not like you have to fill out a dozen forms to explain why you need one. Once human-to-human transmission was confirmed, I sincerely doubt few people with any meaningful influence would have criticized a health emergency at least. You know, there is a whole spectrum of responses you can have between "it's nothing" and "I want you to panic". A bunch of dippy commentators on YouTube is not always a good source of possible responses. I also would've criticized anybody who would have called for a panic, because that means the shortage of masks, medicines, and other medical supplies would've happened even earlier. |

The lack of testing was red tape imposed by the CDC and FDA. Private and state-owned labs as well as private companies were trying to get test kits and testing going, and the Federal Government stopped them. This article covers most of it, relevant paragraph: Late last week, the Food and Drug Administration broke the logjam, authorizing state and local laboratories to do initial testing on their own. If labs had developed and validated a test, they could use it for diagnosis instead of relying on the C.D.C.’s version or waiting for a replacement. There were other articles I remember but it's hard to find them. Trump needs to get out his firing wand and obliterate upper management in CDC and FDA over this once things calm down. |

The lack of testing was red tape imposed by the CDC and FDANot because of rules put in place by Trump. And lefties scream when he moves to shrink those agencies. And I don't use the Beobachter Slimes as a source personally. Whenever I post them, it's when they (rarely) admit the truth in an article. Trump needs to get out his firing wand and obliterate upper management in CDC and FDA over this Works for me. The smaller the Democratic deep-state politburo, the better (executive agencies writing regulations with force of law is still un-Constitutional on paper). |

If Trump hadn't gotten out his firing wand back in 2017 he would have had high level White House officials riding herd on the process. |

All three executives (Trump, Cuomo, and de Blasio) underplayed the risk, and they're all at fault, in decreasing order of their ability to have responded more effectively. |
