The lack of testing was red tape imposed by the CDC and FDA. Private and state-owned labs as well as private companies were trying to get test kits and testing going, and the Federal Government stopped them.This article covers most of it, relevant paragraph: Late last week, the Food and Drug Administration broke the logjam, authorizing state and local laboratories to do initial testing on their own. If labs had developed and validated a test, they could use it for diagnosis instead of relying on the C.D.C.’s version or waiting for a replacement. There were other articles I remember but it's hard to find them. Trump needs to get out his firing wand and obliterate upper management in CDC and FDA over this once things calm down. |
