The IC IG, in his sworn testimony to Congrss, pointed out that the whistleblower did, in fact, have firsthand knowledge of what went on with Trump and Zelensky.

There wasn't any explicit quid pro quo in the summary. I read it. If you imagine Trump as a cunning mafia-esque linguist, you can see a quid pro quo.
That is, until you learn Ukraine didn't even know the aid was held up until a month after the call. Then they got the aid anyway, without any Biden dirt being provided. So, they didn't know the quid wasn't coming during the call, then they got the quid without providing the pro quo.

The more I read about this the more I think this is another fantasy, like Russiagate and Kavanaugh. Impeachment is the Democrats' only chance to win in 2020 because they are:
(1) - Incapable of putting forward a platform Americans actually want
(2) - Have no candidate who can beat Trump on policy

Many of Trump's policies are straight out of the democrat handbook, but because the media has successfully brainwashed their base into "anything the Orange Man does is bad" they are forced to go far left for potential voters. Then they start trying to out-left each other on the debate stage and go off into crazyland.

Mike Pence is a "traditional" Republican, and so would be easier for Democrats to beat as they will be able to move back towards the center. Right now, they've ceded the center to Trump.

That’s a weird phrase. Mafia dons aren’t well known for being intelligent types with clever wordplay. But Trump does act like a mafia don.

Who cares? The House isn’t impeaching Zelensky.

Many of Trump's policies are straight out of the democrat handbook

Bullshit. Cite just one of these.

but because the media has successfully brainwashed their base into "anything the Orange Man does is bad" they are forced to go far left for potential voters. Then they start trying to out-left each other on the debate stage and go off into crazyland. The media are who got Trump elected in the first place.

Mike Pence would be a breath of fresh air after this nightmare.

Democrat-ish policies?
-Doubling the child tax credit (admittedly Ivanka's push).
-That time he completely gave in to Schumer and Pelosi's Hurricane Harvey relief plan.
-Border security (at the very least, he's only a little bit to the right of Obama compared to the rest of the democrats who are extreme left).
-Hasn't started any new wars.
As for his opinions, these positions he shared in common with Bernie Sanders in 2016. That he's moved to the right of some of them and failed to make policy is more because he's stuck with having to keep Republicans happy.

Mike Pence would be a breath of fresh air after this nightmare.
He is "marriage is between a man and woman" type. Also, Think Trump Is Scary? Check Out Mike Pence On The Issues [huffpo] and Mike Pence's Awful Positions on Women's Rights [cosmo].

1. In conjunction with a massive tax cut.
2. I’ll give you that one, but he had no problem with hurricane relief for Texas. Compare to his treatment of Puerto Rico.
3. His border security plans are centered on his idiotic wall, which is hardly something that Obama would have endorsed. He wanted a medieval-style moat with alligators or shooting at border crossers. Hardly liberal.
4. Wow, what an achievement.

Not going to click the link, but I find it troubling that the left have abandoned their prior anti-immigration ideas. Putting Americans last. I am opposed to tariffs and was opposed to Sanders in 2016.

Agree here. But, deportation raids and detaining those who would cross illegally are not different than the past. Current left is calling for the end of raids and detention. Thus he is closer to Obama than the current left.

He wanted a medieval-style moat with alligators or shooting at border crossers.

I read about that, it sounded like someone took a joke seriously, or cherry picked the more ridiculous parts of a brainstorming session and leaked it to the press. Not an official statement.

Wow, what an achievement
It's an achievement that Obama was not able to deliver despite making the same promise. Besides, if you believed left media hyperbole around 2016 we should have been nuked 10x over by now.

I am opposed to tariffs and was opposed to Sanders in 2016.
I like tariffs, and I liked Sanders in 2016. The current Sanders is regurgitating too much far left nonsense for me to take seriously now. That, and heart attack.

Trump did a remarkably successful job of poisoning the waters on this one, and the Democrats fell for it. Obama's immigration policies were mainstream and neither moat with alligators nor open borders for all.

Fine, but Trump doesn't negotiate in good faith. The result is that businesses face massive uncertainty, and you know what businesses do when they face uncertainty.

It's different than Watergate.

In Watergate, a crime was definitely committed. And with time, it became clear that a cover-up was launched to make it look like the criminals had nothing to do with the Republicans.

Nixon's defense was that the cover-up either didn't happen, or if it did happen, it was done by underlings and not with his consent. Once he was proven to be lying about that, he was out.

In contrast, Trump does not in the least deny that he asked the Ukrainians (and the Chinese) for help in getting dirt on the Bidens. His defense is that it wasn't a crime and in fact was in the national interest, and even if it was illegal it doesn't warrant removal from office.

So with Trump, the facts aren't really in dispute. What Trump did is all out in the open. The issue is the subjective one of whether what he did was illegal or bad, and how illegal and bad.

But I think that this, like watergate, is expanding or at least defining the boundary o executive privilege. And unlike Nixon, I think that Trump would let the country fracture rather than giving in.
