However the existence of a free market is not the issue. Its a case of greedy speculators & real estate people who abuse the free market system and could care less about the people in the area that get hurt, with the seal of approval from mutts like DeBlasio & Cuomo.Fuck Amazon. They should have given them a spot on Roosevelt Island south of the Queensboro Bridge. Don't like that? Try Belmont Island! |

Many progressives hate non-government jobs. Especially if it's a company owned by someone wealthy. They believe that only the government can be trusted to treat workers fairly. I heard a retired LA City Council person say essentially that about a decade ago to stop a manufacturing company from bringing jobs to LA and have noticed it over and over since then. They would rather people be unemployed and living on welfare than have them have real jobs where they are exploited.NYC has lots of jobs but could use more. Lots are unemployed. Amazon would have significantly helped reduce unemployment although I totally get being opposed to them getting tax breaks. That is obscene. |

It was the millennial Sanderista elitists who voted for AOC in the primary.I’m a millennial elitist too, but one who considers socialism a dirty word. The working class voted for Crowley.Ocasio-Cortez got 57.5% of the vote. It wasn't close She took Crowley's Woodside base by an even greater margin. Here's a link to a map (at bottom of article) that shows the geographical split. The map's caption notes: "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won big in parts of Steinway, Sunnyside and Jackson Heights." These are working class and ethnic neighborhoods. Crowley's base shifted towards East Elmhurst, which is mostly black. |

As the ability to think deeply and accept various paradoxes is reduced by a variety of 21st century factors (though founded in previous centuries), everything, more and more, is considered either awesome or terrible. Anything such as capitalism that, once come to be perceived by the sober-minded as mostly good if not totally awesome, ends up in the "bad" category because of its various shortcomings.Along these lines, I sometimes get warned by someone asking me to take a survey regarding their effectiveness / service that their higher-ups take anything less than the highest rating as unacceptable. I'm not sure if they are lying about that in order to guilt me into giving the highest rating or if they're telling the truth. |

Of course there were poor people but for the majority, the economy was the best we’ve ever seen. People could hire on a factory at entry level and within a year could buy a car. In a few years they could buy a house. We had enough money as a country to put a man on the moon and educate every child and still build highways. |
