You should try reading what your links say and what links they include in their article. Wages are rising across the board.

Neither do you. Admit that what you're selling is hype. The majority see no improving economy.

Many in the middle class see their tax deduction for property tax getting cut, so they have to even increase their withholding, reducing take home pay, to cover the new liability. That's NOT a tax cut.

The tax deduction has been cut but remember, the 2018 standard deduction is $24,000 for married joint-filing couples (compared to $12,700 for 2017). Even in high property tax/state income tax states like NY and NJ, how many middle class couples in 2017 had itemized deductions in excess of $24,000? From what I've read, it's households earning $200,000 or more that will be impacted, and even in NY and Taxachusetts, that's greater than middle class incomes.

From your article:

“Economists cautioned against reading too much into a single month of data, which is preliminary and will be revised at least twice. Several times in recent years, wage growth has appeared to pick up, only to fall back to earth in subsequent months. And other measures of wage growth haven’t yet shown the same acceleration.”

And

“Instead, Mr. Mabry said, he is looking for ways to make restaurants more efficient by reducing turnover, improving morale and cross-training workers for various jobs. The goal, he said, is to be able to pay higher wages to fewer workers.”

Take your own advice and read the articles you link Dave.

Reading is fundamental.

Even in high property tax/state income tax states like NY and NJ, how many middle class couples in 2017 had itemized deductions in excess of $24,000?

Many. For example:

150K income.
8K income tax.
15K real estate tax.
15K mortgage interest.
2K charitable if they can afford it.

Not to mention that they also have lost their 8K person exemptions.

This is of course compensated for to some degree by reduced tax rates, but that wasn't what you brought up.

It depends on the size of your deductions. The reduced rates do offset the loss of the personal exemptions and some amount of deductions.

In NY, that's a household of five people, using the link I posted earlier. I'll assume the $150K is gross income and it's a married couple.

2017: Exemptions of $4,050 x 5 = $20,250. Deductions of $40,000. AGI = $89,750. Tax is $13,915.

2018: Exemptions = $24,000. Child tax credit = $6,000. SALT deductions = $10,000. Mortgage deduction = $15,000. AGI = $95,000. Tax is $12,779.

This family pays less in taxes under the new tax law.

And I realized over lunch that I was wrong in my 2018 calculation. You aren't able to take the standard deduction AND a deduction for SALT and mortgage interest; the latter are available only when the itemized deductions exceed the standard deduction. The correct math is:

2018: Child tax credit = $6,000. SALT deductions = $10,000. Mortgage deduction = $15,000. AGI = $119,000. Tax is $18,059.
