The tax deduction has been cut but remember, the 2018 standard deduction is $24,000 for married joint-filing couples (compared to $12,700 for 2017). Even in high property tax/state income tax states like NY and NJ, how many middle class couples in 2017 had itemized deductions in excess of $24,000? From what I've read, it's households earning $200,000 or more that will be impacted, and even in NY and Taxachusetts, that's greater than middle class incomes.https://www.cnbc.com/2017/03/30/how-much-you-have-to-earn-to-be-considered-middle-class-in-every-state.html |
