Even in high property tax/state income tax states like NY and NJ, how many middle class couples in 2017 had itemized deductions in excess of $24,000?Many. For example: 150K income. 8K income tax. 15K real estate tax. 15K mortgage interest. 2K charitable if they can afford it. Not to mention that they also have lost their 8K person exemptions. This is of course compensated for to some degree by reduced tax rates, but that wasn't what you brought up. |
