And I realized over lunch that I was wrong in my 2018 calculation. You aren't able to take the standard deduction AND a deduction for SALT and mortgage interest; the latter are available only when the itemized deductions exceed the standard deduction. The correct math is:2018: Child tax credit = $6,000. SALT deductions = $10,000. Mortgage deduction = $15,000. AGI = $119,000. Tax is $18,059. |
