No other well-to-do country has a gun death rate anywhere near as high as ours. Everyone here dodges this question: what's wrong with the Canadian model? Every adult non-felon is allowed to own a gun. Gun death homicide rates are 1/7th those of the US (while other homicide rates are comaprable). |

Producing and acting in plays the government doesn't like, won't get anyone killed. (Hair was, and remains, one of my all-time favorite plays.) But guns do, and I'm just saying a modest tax on gun owners would cover the cost of the harm their guns do.I do understand your point, however, about taxing things like plays or newspaper articles. As a matter of fact, NYC charges various kinds of production taxes to all plays, movies, and TV shows done in the city, including my current play that opens in the spring. It's just part of the cost of doing business. |
