Or in other words, we should pass single payer.

Medicare for all!

... see for yourself all the people in Canada that didn't have to die while they were on long waiting list.

What people?

I haven't needed health care in Canada, nor have I had a medical emergency; just a chronic condition I can't afford to treat (but could in Canada).

I also have a minor condition that occurs from time to time, occasionally requiring a non-urgent non-emergency appointment to remedy it. In America, getting such an appointment takes about a week and cost $40. Meanwhile, when I had the same condition in Italy, I got a house call on the same day and it would have cost $0 if I'd been from a country that provides health care to visiting Italians. If Canadian health care is even half as good as Italian health care, it'd be amazing.

Yeah, that would work. And the private insurers could sell add on plans, dental and vision plans that would be worth a damn.

It's called the spirit of compromise. Plus it would keep some people in healthcare insurance employed, which would be a little less disruptive economically. Medicare as it exists doesn't cover 100% of everything, they sell "Medigap" plans to cover that. I don't see any reason that would need to change. Medicaid already covers both for the poorest, so they can access those services as needed.

You are overrating the paperwork aspect. My father runs a successful solo practice with my mother as his only staff. Your solution would do nothing for them. Many doctors just have lazy or incompetent staff. My father does take some ACA plans - the ones with better reimbursement rates. Having a practice in a working class neighborhood taking ACA plans is useful

fiogf49gjkf0d
What would make the most sense would be a bonus reimbursement rate for small practitioners since the economy of scale for large groups is a completely different thing. There, paperwork restrictions are their biggest issue based on the sheer volume. Is your dad a PCP or a specialist? The smaller practitioners do the best work and generally have better outcomes than groups and they should be rewarded for the better care.

Because it's one fifth of the economy. Change is needed, but we do need to be pragmatic about it. Every new doctor comes with their own mortgage, it's the only way to get through medical school to residency where one begins to make a little money.

The Democratic plan was topahse in a pulic option by age, descending from 65, over a few years, of Medicare access for all, for a premium, and let the markets shift and redesign their products to be compatible. THAT would have worked, brought down prices and expanded and equalized care.

That's health expenditure, as in total money spent on health care. Much of that would remain in place if we switched to single payer— it can save a lot of money, but health care will always be costly.
