I never said it wasn't rare (where did I claim such???), I did however say there was absolutely no evidence that this is the "first" and only time this ever happened. (It very well could be, or it may not be, but it wasn't said ANYWHERE as of yet).
Fred aside (who knows this too, but is playing the game of course), there isn't any site that claims this is the first time. That was totally either made up, or inferred from a Guidance counselor in one school who "never saw this in her 15 years there" (remembering William Floyd School District doesn't have the greatest stats to begin with, so there of all places it's going to be quite rare).

How can you say it's disgusting? It's an inspirational story for black kids who are so often told they CAN'T accomplish certain things.

That's the whole point. People making a big deal out of the fact that he's "Black", and this happened actually show the opposite, as in "Amazing that a Black kid could even do this". That's a terrible message to send. If you look, it's actually people making a big deal out of the fact that he's Black that are sending the message that "Blacks can't normally accomplish certain things". That's terrible.

I don't hear any black people say they are insulted by this story.

I did NOT SAY that Black people should be insulted by the story, but instead the hype that is being made because he's BLACK and this happened, as in "it's not something Blacks can normally accomplish". Again, a TERRIBLE message to send.

Fox News was the weirdest. They not only did not mention the kid's race in their website's article, the failed to show his photo as well!

And why should it not be a KID that did this? Why should it be mentioned that it's a "Black" kid or a "white" kid? While there's nothing wrong with showing his photo, why do YOU think they (or any news outlet) should even mention he's "Black"? Because otherwise it's just assumed he's white? Again, terrible.

I'd be more sympathetic if the right did not trumpet the race of every black criminal.

Pointing out the epidemic of violence in black communities, and black on white crime is not an indictment of all blacks. In most cases, blacks are the victims of black on black violence.

How can you say it's disgusting? It's an inspirational story for black kids who are so often told they CAN'T accomplish certain things. I don't hear any black people say they are insulted by this story. How can you speak for them?

No one says they "CAN'T".

Look at the demographics of NYC over the years and the percentage of Italian-Americans at Stuyvesant and Science. No one says Italian-Americans "CAN'T" get into those schools. They just get in at very very very low percentages.

Fox News was the weirdest. They not only did not mention the kid's race in their website's article, the failed to show his photo as well!

Fox is making a statement. Obviously mocking the stories where the mainstream media leaves out race. They did this so YOU and others can pick up the omission and feel cool for noticing it.

Yes, but it IS the point. Why is it racism to describe a perpetrator of an alleged crime? That's good for many things, as in describing who did it, especially when trying to catch someone. Law enforcement shouldn't be reporting a "teenager with black hair about 6 feet tall as opposed to a (white black hispanic asian fill in a blank) teenager with black hair about 6 feet tall did whatever. There is reasoning for describing what a criminal or alleged criminal looks like.

There's absolutely NO reason for having to describe the race of a teenager that did something like this. Why is "being black" pertinent? Other than, "wow what a surprise a black kid could do this" (and that goes back to that's terrible).

Instead of being surprised at the fact that this came out of William Floyd School district, which has pretty dire stats as opposed to other school districts on Long Island, people bring up race. That's VERY sad.
The real story is that this isn't one of the best school districts on Long Island, yet was able to produce such a student.
William Floyd's graduation rate is terribly low (73.1%), one of "the" worst on Long Island. The only ones lower are places like Wyandanch. THAT is the story here, yet people are "stuck on race" instead.

YES, thankfully. But the original poster felt the need to make it an issue. And unfortunately there are a LOT of sites (mostly left leaning) that are mentioning he's black for the sole purpuse of bringing up race in a story that has nothing to do with race.

This should instead have been a story about "a kid" beating the odds at a very marginal (compared to other school districts on Long Island) school district, of which William Floyd has dreadful stats when it comes to those who even make it to graduate, much less go to any college. THAT is the story here.
