After airing my Sicilian temper (and remaining very upset) I will attempt to answer your question as best as I can remaining as calm as I can.The point at which I consider life beginning and you consider life beginning is immaterial here. I am not a woman, therefore, I have NO RIGHT TO REGULATE WHAT WOMEN DO WITH THEIR BODIES. Have I ever been pregnant? No. Will I ever be able to become pregnant? No. Do I have a right to make laws about decisions that people face that I will never be presented with? I don't believe so. Yes, I believe that a human life begins from the moment of conception. Yes, I believe that human life is precious. But, I am also a realist. I know that even if abortion became illegal, people would still try to find ways to abort their babies. Ways that would be more harmful to both the baby AND the mother. Therefore, I feel that if people are going to do it anyways (whether, in my mind, I feel it right or not) precautions need to be made to make the process as safe as possible, and therefore I feel that legalized abortions with the help of trained professionals is preferable. It's not genocide, and calling it that is disrespectful to the people who have suffered from genocide. It also is different from the murder of someone post-birth as it's universally accepted morally that murder of any human being post-birth is morally WRONG. I subscribe to this theory as do, I'm sure, almost everyone else here. The issue of debate is pre-birth. Do I think it's a "sin" or "wrong" for someone to abort a fetus? Yes. Do I think that these people should to to jail for doing so? No. |
