As both Nigeria and the US are not Schengen countries, I believe he may not have had to re-clear any security at Schipol. That is the implication from the KLM website, and I believe it is also the case at Zurich with Swiss Air (transferees arriving from a non-Schengen country and departing to a non-Schengen country do not (and cannot) exit the secure area).
