I wouldn't go that far … However, consider that in almost any other context, changing the rules in the middle of a competition to help one side win is the textbook definition of cheating…

So you have gone that far. But at least make a stand on that point.

There is a reason why Woodrow Wilson called socialism and democracy "one and the same". And there is a reason why the word "republic" still has a separate definition.
