Your argument (2) is exactly why the lockdowns are overkill. Small steps like wearing a mask (which Trump is stupidly fueling a partisan divide on, even OANN is saying wear a mask) and social distancing (50% capacity, no large gatherings, no licking strangers you meet on the street) are sufficient to avoid overwhelming the hospital system.
