It was never thought to kill more than 1% of those who get infected. It is still thought to kill about 1% of those who are infected. It will still take 2 million deaths to bring the US to herd immunity without some kind of medical advance or a change in the character of the virus. 2. It isn't infecting as many people any more because even Republicans are mostly practicing social distancing. Do you see any area of the country where restaurants are generally packing people in at full capacity? Or where stadiums are filled with people? Of course, Trump is proposing an interesting scientific experiment, namely to hold the Republican Convention with the full cast of people. If they pull that off without a major outbreak among leading Republicans in September, it would prove that something has fundamentally changed. |
