How does ranked choice voting particularly help to encourage third parties? Your new party still has to replace one of the two existing major parties in a given state in order to win anything. The 3rd and 4th parties in Maine remain minor items.The DUP in the UK currently wields a phenomenal amount of power, even though it didn't elect the PM. There is no way the 3rd and 4th parties in Maine could wield that kind of power in Maine. And third parties in Israel have a tremendous effect on who becomes PM, and also on policy. |
