Sounds like your local hospitals have a problem, then...or you don't know what you're talking about. Federal law, as well as the guidelines of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, requires that anesthesia must be administered by:

1) An anesthesiologist; or
2) A doctor of medicine or osteopathy (other than an anesthesiologist); or
3) A dentist, oral surgeon, or podiatrist who is qualified to administer anesthesia under State law; or
4) A certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), who, unless exempted, is under the supervision of the operating practitioner or of an anesthesiologist who is immediately available if needed; or
5) An anesthesiologist's assistant who is under the supervision of an anesthesiologist who is immediately available if needed.

Only one of these professionals is required in the OR, not two.
